Right wing Teddy Purcell, who had career highs in goals and assists last season, agreed to a three-year, $13.5 million contract extension with the Tampa Bay Lightning. "When they show that trust and faith in you, you want to show them they made the right decision," Purcell told the Tampa Bay Times. "It makes you that much more hungry." Purcell's two-year contract was due to expire after the upcoming season, following which he would have been eligible for free agency. Now he's tied to the team through 2015-16, making $4.5 million each season during the length of the extension. Purcell, 26, ranked third on the Lightning with 24 goals last season, trailing only Steven Stamkos (60) and Martin St. Louis (25). Purcell's 41 assists were second on the team to St. Louis' 49.
