Buzz On Broad:
The Flyers are now 0-3 on the season in games that reach overtime or a shootout, this time dropping to the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in overtime.
This game, however, had a completely different feel from any other game that the Flyers have played this season. It was a well-thought, hard-fought chess match. It was a battle of two coaches that knew how to counter each other’s moves.
The Lightning play the ever-so-boring 1-3-1 defense, which puts one “fore checking” forward at the opposing team’s blue line, three players lined up at the red line, and one defenseman playing sort of a deep safety position in their own zone. The defensive scheme is used to create turnovers in the neutral zone and lead to odd-man rushes.
However, the Flyers weren’t having any part of it. Whenever they got the puck, they would send it back to one of their defensemen and hold the puck in the zone for as long as it took. The referees blew the play dead after about 40 seconds the first time the Flyers used thi...

Eric Brewer should have no trouble scouting the strengths and weaknesses of his opponent Saturday night when the Tampa Bay Lightning make its only visit of the season to St. Louis.

There are a few ways of looking at the 4-year, $18-million deal the Philadelphia Flyers handed to Braydon Coburn on Wednesday, which goes into effect next season.
First off: He was probably going to get the money as an unrestricted free agent next summer. That's Mike Komisarek/Dan Hamhuis territory, and Coburn legitimately slots in around that cap hit as a player who plays shutdown...
Chris Pronger of the Philadelphia Flyers is probable to play against the Tampa Bay Lighting, and Daniel Paille of the Boston Bruins will have facial surgery after taking a puck to the face. (NBC Sports)
Chris Pronger is expected to return to the Flyers on Wednesday night after missing six games with an eye injury, two sources said.
