This will go down as one of the easiest goals of Patrick Toews‘ career. The Blackhawks captain was credited with the game-tying goal with less than two minutes remaining in Thursday night’s meeting with Tampa Bay, but he had nothing to do with the puck going in the net. Instead it was Lightning defensemen Matt Carle and Radko Gudas who combined to thread the puck past Ben Bishop — their own goaltender — and tie the game at 5-5 in the closing minutes of the third period. After Martin St. Louis pickpocketed Toews in the neutral zone, Carle fired the puck back toward Gudas in the Tampa Bay end in hopes of gaining some breathing room and milking the clock a bit. His pass had far too much mustard on it, however, causing it to ricochet off Gudas’ stick, through his legs and right past a stunned Bishop. Since Toews was the last Chicago skater to touch the puck, he got credit for the goal, which sent the game into overtime. St. Louis bailed out his embarrassed blueliners, though, scoring just over a minute into the extra session to give the Lightning a 6-5 win. Check out the blunder in the video below.
