Heading onto the ice last night for a little Capsule action I tweeted that the Oilers' game was going to be a bloodbath. Four defencemen out, Theo Peckham on the second pair, four games lost on a row, each one worse than the last, nobody scoring, best team in the league in town, pissed off after coming off of a loss.Bloodbath, right? After hauling myself out of a loss where I had my worst game of the year (note to self - two pints before the game, not a good idea) - I checked in on the Twitter and caught Woodguy wondering if the Oilers could hold the lead. I figured they were somehow up by one.Bloodbath.I watched the game on CBC replay last night after I came home loaded drunk and then watched it again this afternoon. Good way to watch the game, in and out in an hour, the less Weekes and Lee the better, right?Best game for the Oilers since June 17th 2006. Crazy. One of those games where everything went well and it spun out of control for the Hawks early and then it was all over. ...

Strudwick to the SEL

According to a couple of Swedish newspapers, ex-Oiler Jason Strudwick has signed with Södertälje SK (SSK) of the Swedish Elite League. Strudwick is a new father and when there were not any offers that were a good fit for him and his family through the off season it looked as though Strudwick would take this season off. However, with as far as I can tell, a season ending...

Richard Cloutier: The Best Defense is a Good Offense

Taylor Hall: Hat-trick, and he should have had four. If the ref would have went to video replay, Hall would have scored his fourth late in the third period. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Five assists, and it could have been six. He had an assist taken away in the second period. Jordan Eberle and Tom Gilbert? Four points each. Theo Peckham? 19 PIM's and +5. Jeff Petry? 3pts and a...

Richard Cloutier: Oilers v. Stars: Pretenders or Contenders?

The Edmonton Oilers play against the Stars tonight in Dallas. Please insert your random Sheldon Souray jokes here. Actually, Souray has been no joke. The Stars, up until about ten days ago, looked like a pretty solid team. At one time about three weeks ago, the Stars and Oilers were battling it out as points leaders in the Western Conference. So what happened? In Edmonton...

Shaky Performance: Hawks in need of a rebound win on Wednesday

After a good start to the infamous Circus Road Trip, the Hawks have been less than stellar the last two days. After losing a tough one in Calgary on Friday, the Hawks effectively decided not to play any defense against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. The score, 9-2, explains it all for me. 9 goals? This is after holding the Canucks to 1 goal and the Oilers the previous week to only...

They've hit the panic button, switched up lines and split apart their two best players and now the Stars are getting an infusion of youth in an attempt to...

Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins put Oilers past Hawks

Taylor Hall had a hat trick, Jordan Eberle had a goal and three assists, and rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up five goals for the Edmonton Oilers, who broke a four-game skid in a big way with a 9-2 rout of the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.

Lust For Life

The quotes last night ranged from the sublime ("Steve Smith: What a stupid god-damned hockey team...just idiotic") to the ridiculous ("Irony can be a funny thing sometimes") and the emotions flow as the mind races. Some observationsOn a night when everything was beautiful, Jordan Eberle's psycho-pass to Ryan Smyth for a goal in the first period was the outer...

G20 Oilers at Stars

Ryan Smyth has done everything else this season, maybe he can find a W in Dallas. For Oiler fans Dallas may not be hell, but you can see if from there. Of all the places for Sheldon Souray to show up, deep in the heart of Texas would not have been first choice. Since Marchant beat Moog the southerners have had the decided edge, and that edge has stretched over a long time. On the...
