Los Angeles Kings captain and forward Dustin Brown is the 2011 recipient of the NHL Foundation Award, given to him in honor of his

many charitable efforts.
This was Brown’s third straight nomination for the honor and first win.
He beat out the Washington Capitals’ Mike Green and Daniel and Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks.
Brown has done work on behalf of children, the sick, natural disaster victims.
Over the past two years, he has donated or helped raise thousands of dollars for the building of a playground in Carson, Calif., Japanese earthquake victims and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’s Newborn and Infant Critical Care Unit.
The money he donated to the NICU came from his decision to donate $50 for each hit he dished out last season.
His commitment to that cause has a personal meaning to it as his first son, Mason, was born around eight weeks premature and spent time ...
