Saturday Night’s All Right for Regicide
The break is finally over and the Vancouver Canucks are back in action tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.
It’s been a weird few days in Canuck land so it’ll be nice to distract from all the off-ice drama with some actual hockey.
It’s Saturday night and the rival Kings are in town, it can’t be any better.
Matchup: Vancouver Canucks (10 – 5– 4) v Phoenix Coyotes (10 – 6–2)
Venue: Rogers Arena
Time: 7:00 pm PT
TV/Radio: CBC, Team 1040
Game Notes
The Kings are hot, having won five in a row, while the Canucks have been limping along since the return of Ryan Kesler. Thankfully, perhaps, they don’t have to worry about that anymore.
It’s the second meeting of the year between the two clubs, and the season series wraps up three weeks from today when the Canucks are in LA.
The Kings have owned the Canucks
What to Watch: Los Angeles
As mentioned, the Kings are red hot and so are their star players. Jeff Carter, Anze Kopitar and Mike Richards have combined for 17 points during their five game win streak as the Kings are finally shaking off the early season rust and returning to their patented boring brand of hockey.
The Kings have owned the Canucks in the recent past, winning seven of the last nine games.
Line-up
Justin Williams-Anze Kopitar-Dustin Brown
Trevor Lewis-Mike Richards-Jeff Carter
Dustin Penner-Jarret Stoll-Dwight King
Kyle Clifford-Colin Fraser-Jordan Nolan
Jake Muzzin-Drew Doughty
Rob Scuderi-Slava Voynov
Keaton Ellerby-Davis Drewskie
Jonathan Quick
What to Watch: Vancouver
Ok let’s recap this week.
Aaron Volpatti was placed on waivers, presumably to clear a roster spot for Steve Pinizzotto, only to have Ryan Kesler reveal a couple hours later that he’s been playing with a broken foot. The Canucks countered by picking off Tom Sestito from waivers off of the Flyers.
So Volpatti was lost to Washington while Kesler was lost to the IR for four to six weeks. The new healthy Kesler really didn’t last that long.
Meanwhile, Cory Schneider will get the nod in net after blaming himself for Tuesday’s loss against Phoenix because he felt like he wasn’t making the big saves.
It’s been a frustrating week and the Canucks would love to throw it away and come out with two points tonight.
Line-up
Daniel Sedin-Henrik Sedin-Alex Burrows
Chris Higgins-Mason Raymond-Jannik Hansen
David Booth-Maxim Lapierre-Zack Kassian
Tom Sestito-Jordan Schroeder-Dale Weise
Alex Edler-Chris Tanev
Dan Hamhuis-Keith Ballard
Andrew Alberts-Jason Garrison
Cory Schneider
Injuries
As mentioned, Ryan Kesler is out till sometime in April. In happier news, Kevin Bieksa is skating and could play tonight or tomorrow in Calgary.
For the Kings, Alec Martinez will be a game time decision.
Prediction
A win would go a long way toward calming this city down.

NWSB Picks: The weekly Vancouver Canucks three stars
Top performing ‘Nucks Feb. 18-25
The Vancouver Canucks completed another topsy-turvy week in the NHL. The boys in blue continued their Jekyll/Hyde routine over the past four games, showing signs of greatness, and of utter despair. It began with a hard earned point against the league’s best, and ended with an embarrassing showing in the motor city.

The Vancouver Canucks have hit the skids – they are 2-3-2 over their last seven games, have lost two straight in Regulation time and they are 0-2-1 in their last three games on home ice. Yikes! The Canucks welcome the hated LA Kings to town on Saturday night who are currently on a five...
How to Beat the Goalie: Bernier
(Photo by: Mark J. Terril/AP Photo)
Since being drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2006, Jonathan Bernier has found himself as a backup to Jonathan Quick. Bernier is a very capable goaltender and could start in at least five other NHL cities. He knows that because earlier this season, he asked for trade from Los Angeles knowing he wouldn't be making any progress...
Erin Andrews Laughs As Vancouver Green Men Troll Jarret Stoll

Erin Andrews has quite the life. After dodging kisses from 50 Cent last week, Pageviews was lounging on Saturday night while her dude, L.A. Kings center Jarret Stoll, was facing down the angry Canucks’ crowd at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The Green Men are relentless. They think Stoll is a ‘Burger King.’
As it turns out, the Green Men didn’t break Stoll until...

Canucks vs Calgary Flames: Burn it with fire!
Burn After Watching
With the horrible weather in Calgary holding the Canucks in Vancouver Sunday morning, you began to wonder what to expect when the puck dropped at the Saddledome.
The travel wasn’t long, but hockey players have routines and disruptions to that routine during a home and away back-to-back can cause the type of flux that leads to what we saw last night.
While Calgary...
Anze Kopitar scores slick game-winning goal against the Red Wings
The Los Angeles Kings started the season with signs of a Stanley Cup hangover, posting a 3-5-2 record in their first 10 games. They have started to turn things around and on Wednesday, their good play continued as they beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1. The Wings were up 1-0 and the Kings scored two goals in the third period to win the game.
On the second goal, Anze Kopitar was...
A Violent Style Of Play
from Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province,
It's hard to know when the forces of evil kidnapped the Western Conference and held it for ransom in Jacques Lemaire's basement. The L.A. Kings Stanley Cup victory? Maybe. But, long before the Kings hoisted the chalice, the darkness had already taken hold in St. Louis, in Nashville, in Phoenix, in Minnesota.
The erosion of...
Predators-Kings Preview
The Los Angeles Kings hope the end of their winning streak was simply a one-game reprieve from the stellar goaltending they've had of late.
The Nashville Predators' league-worst offense continues to sputter and the team's current struggles show little sign of fading until its penalty-kill issues are sorted out.
Los Angeles will look for a sixth win in seven games Monday...
