The New York Islanders defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky has been placed on the injured reserve list, this according to a club announcement.
The move is reportedly retroactive to this past Saturday when he suffered a concussion against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 37 year old Visnovsky so far for the season has a goal and two assists in the first eight games of this young season. There is no timetable for his return at this point, but he will miss at least a few more games which will include tonight’s tilt in Vancouver against the Canucks and the trip to Pittsburgh this Friday to verse the Penguins. The team will then most likely re-evaluate his situation and decide from there when he can resume play.
So far this year the Islanders have relied heavily on Travis Hamonic and Andrew MacDonald, their solid blue-liners. This will be a test for them while he is out because Visnovsky is a solid 20-minute guy.
