Oilers Beat Wild 4-3 in Shootout The Edmonton Oilers have one game remaining in their pre-season schedule, but are already running out of players due to injury. This was no easy battle for the Oilers, behind 3-1 thanks to two Wild power play goals in the third, but managed to find the back of the net twice in time to tie the game before the end of regulation time. The extra five minutes would solve nothing, and neither team would accumulate many shots on net; both goaltenders had their work cut out for them. Through the shootout, it was a sweet Swede who made the day for the Oilers. Continue reading "Luck of the Oilers Reaches All New Low"

Oilers eager to end playoff drought

With a roster full of young talent, the Edmonton Oilers are eager to end their lengthy playoff drought. They've missed the postseason since losing to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup final. Two years into a top-to-bottom rebuild that's seen them finish last overall the past two seasons, the Oilers have a long way to go to become contenders. Coach...

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Taylor Fedun was taken off the ice on a stretcher after suffering an apparent leg injury early in the second period Friday night against the Minnesota Wild. Fedun and Minnesota's Eric Nystrom were chasing after a puck near the end boards. Nystrom reached around Fedun with his stick in an attempt to touch the puck and avoid an icing call. Video replays...

PS G7 Oilers at Wild

We won't get to see behind closed doors until the first OIL CHANGE episode and then only what the Oilers want documented. I think one of the clever Oilogosphere writers should do a script of an outlaw OC complete with what we think is happening. I'd love to hear the real NK conversations and the real Smyth-Fraser story ("didn't Dr. Nick Riviera have a look at him...

Taylor Fedun Hurt on Delayed Icing Play

Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers beat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 via a shootout, in thrilling come-from-behind fashion. However, right now, my attention is on the health and well-being of Taylor Fedun who I had the pleasure of watching throughout his Alberta Junior Hockey League days. Fedun now, a promising Oilers' prospect sustained a horrific injury on a delayed icing play. Early...

PS G8 Oilers at Canucks

It appears as though the Oilers have snookered themselves again, and once again it's the blue. With the team already subpar at the position, news came just before camp that Ryan Whitney was hurting. Whitney still hasn't played, and after last night (Minnesota is a black hole for the Oilers) the list of walking wounded is massive. Whitney has been joined by Taylor Fedun (in...

Prospect Progress

The end of preseason games for the Oilers gives us our first chance to catch up on prospects and their early performances. As always, there are surprises good and bad, worries and smiles, up arrows and down elevators. CHLMartin Gernat: 4, 3-4-7 +4: I don't really know what to say about this player and his start. Good job? Let's not get too excited. Brandon Davidson 5, 1-6...

Career Opportunities

This is Riley Nash. There are still a couple of cuts to come, but it looks like he might be a Carolina Hurricane opening night. The Oilers traded him to the pick that turned into Martin Marincin during the 2010 draft, and Nash has taken a beating in various places (mostly on radio) as a potential NP. This could certainly be true, Nash hasn't played in the NHL yet and he was drafted...
