Found November 09, 2013 on Fightin For Philly:

Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn will return to the lineup today as Philadelphia faces off against the Edmonton Oilers. The 24-year old blueliner has been a healthy scratch for the Flyers’ last 3 contests after a poor showing in the team’s first 12 games. Schenn led all NHL defensemen last year with 187 hits — good for 3rd most in the NHL by any player at any position. He also blocked 102 shots, good for 15th in the league. Schenn’s physicality fits the Flyers’ culture, but the organization is quickly realizing that a culture change is imminent. Luke will be paired up with Erik Gustafsson. James van Riemsdyk has 6 goals and 13 points this season, both numbers that would be tops on the Flyers.

Rumor: Simmonds and Luke Schenn Could Go to Edmonton

In a report by’s Mark Spector, he expressed that the Flyers and Oilers were quite interested in working out a deal that would send Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds and defenseman Luke Schenn to Edmonton. Spector’s report makes sense — the Oilers need size on their team, which both Simmonds and Schenn provide. The Oilers have a wealth of young, talented forwards they...

Claude Giroux Involved in Car Accident

Philadelphia Flyers star center Claude Giroux’s car was hit while it was parked. However, according to multiple reports, Giroux was luckily not in the car when the accident occurred on Friday night. The captain is fine, but carries a career-long 21-game goalless drought into tonight’s game with the Edmonton Oilers.

Giroux: “We’re Gonna Come Back and Make the Playoffs”

Following the Flyers’ 4-2 win over the Oilers, Claude Giroux made sure everyone knew the Flyers weren’t messing around anymore. “We know its not a good start to the season, but we’re  going to comeback and we’re going to make the playoffs,” the Philadelphia captain told reporters after the victory. The Flyers are now 5-10-1 on the season, but there’s still plenty of...

Fraud Giroux snubs media

Everyone's favorite Philly columnist, Sam Carchidi, he of baton fame, let everyone know that Giroux snubbed the media and bounced from the Wells Fargo Center after the Flyers' 3-0 loss to the Devils. The Flyers are a complete mess right now. The NHL is roughly 5 games from the quarter-pole, and Philly has the worst record in the NHL at 4-10-1. -They are scoring only...

Flyers will continue to shuffle lines

With the same players on the lineup card every night, the Flyers are running out of solutions to the same problems. Too many turnovers. Too few shots. A lot of forced passes. Not enough skating. What’s a coach to do when the same pieces of his puzzle never seem to fit? “I’m trying to find some life and some spark offensively,” Craig Berube said after a practice with new...

Oilers sign Ilya Bryzgalov to 1-year deal

You know you have a goaltending problem when….. The Edmonton Oilers did it. They became ‘that team’ to give ostracized goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov another chance in the NHL despite his horrificly expensive debacle with the Philadelphia Flyers. Making the decision…Read more →The post Edmonton Oilers sign goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to a 1-year contract appeared first on The Hockey Daily.

Report: Flyers, Oilers in Talks over Jordan Eberle

Flyers insider Tim Panaccio has reported that Philadelphia is discussing acquiring 23-year old right winger Jordan Eberle from the Edmonton Oilers. Eberle was drafted 22nd overall back in 2008, and has established himself as one of the premier playmakers in the league at a young age. In 2011-12, Eberle scored 34 goals and posted 76 points in 78 games. In the lockout-shortened 2012...

Flyers’ Offense Comes to Life Against Edmonton, Leads Team to 4-2 Over Oilers

Saturday afternoon’s matchup pitted the NHL’s worst offensive team against its worst defensive team, which… didn’t sound promising for either side. However, the Flyers, who were held scoreless in their last game (Thursday at New Jersey), opened up the scoring first, with a nice redirection from Rosehill at 11:56. Then, at 17:16, Hartnell’s second goal of the season gave...

Eklund: Will Orange and Blue Trade to Orange and Black? Oil talk to 4 in Metro.

Lots of chatter over the last 24 hours as the Oilers and Flyers are about to drop the puck. Last night rumors swarmed (from not only fake twitter accounts) that the Flyers and Oilers were discussing a major trade. The rumors of a done deal were way premature and here is what else I can add this afternoon (so far). The Flyers aren't the only team discussing the trade with...

Around the Net November 8 2013: Punchless Flyers lose again; It’s time to fire Paul Holmgren

Welcome to Around the Net, a weekly look through linkage at the Philadelphia Flyers and other news from around the NHL. Today’s Around the Net will be different. I only have a few links to share, then I will be adding my opinion to this mess known as the Flyers. Outsider’s voice of reason You might hate Ryan Lambert because he’s a douche, but he might be right on about this...

Game 16 Preview: Edmonton Oilers @ Philadelphia Flyers

Edmonton Oilers (4-11-2) @ Philadelphia Flyers (4-10-1), 1:00pm, NHL Network/CSN-Philly Well, a meeting between the second-worst and third-worst teams in the NHL took an interesting turn on Friday. After a day filled with several trade rumors between the two clubs, the Edmonton Oilers signed a recently released Philadelphia Flyer that was at least entertaining, if not productive...

Giroux scored his first goal of the season in the Flyers 4-2 win over Oilers

He came into the Oilers’ zone from the left side and made a double move, first to freeze defenseman Andrew Ference, then goalie Devan Dubnyk. That’s when Claude Giroux’s shot finally snapped a 21-game goal drought, lifting the weight of Wells Fargo Center off the captain’s shoulders. “To see all the boys on the bench happy, too that was really fun,” Giroux said after...

Flyers Continue To Struggle

from Bob Ford of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Paul Holmgren took his seat in the upper reaches of the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night and once again, just like you, he waited for the madness to end. The Flyers came into the game against the New Jersey Devils having scored the fewest goals in the league, and exited it the same way. It is a team-wide slump that cost coach...

Reactions to reactions

There’s a lot of rumors and opinions going around regarding the Flyers right now and, well, to cut to the chase, I’m going to throw my hat into the ring too. The idea that Giroux would in any way benefit from being stripped of the C for reasons similar to Lecavalier’s youthful inexperience is of course ludicrous. -Ryan Lambert Sure, Claude Giroux (24) is not as young as Vinny...

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 11/9/13 vs. Edmonton

GAME PREVIEW (5:15 AM EST) Submerged in an offensive abyss that has seen them score a miniscule 1.47 goals per game, something is bound to give when the Philadelphia Flyers (4-10-1) take on the NHL's worst defensive team, the Edmonton Oilers (4-11-2) at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers have scored just 22 goals in 15 games, including just two in their...
