Looking for their third straight win the New York Rangers are tinkering with their lineup inserting Brendan Bell on defense and scratching Jeff Woywitka.  Replacing Woywitka is not a big surprise as he struggled against Calgary, especially in the third period giving up multiple chances and taking a penalty with just 2:44 left in regulation. One change the Rangers are not making is in net as Henrik Lundqvist will make his sixth consecutive start to open the season.  Love the way Lundqvist is playing, but Biron needs to go on Monday against Winnipeg so Lundqvist can get the rest they talked about so much last season. Wojtek Wolski is out again, but making matters worse for him is that Tortorella referred to the winger as a "healthy scratch," so he could go but Tortorella is choosing Christensen over him.  Michael Sauer is still day-to-day.

Henrik Lundqvist Is A Man On A Vezina Trophy Mission

Henrik Lundqvist led the NHL with 11 shutouts in the 2011-12 hockey season. Included in those shutouts were shutouts of both teams who made the finals last season, the Vancouver Canucks and the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. King Henrik finished the season with a sterling 2.28 GAA, a .923 Save Percentage, 36 wins, and [...]

Mike Sauer Getting Closer to Return

The Rangers need to improve their overall game, which was the message from head coach John Tortorella during this morning's practice in Edmonton before the team flew out to Winnipeg. But where they have been their weakest is on defense and part of that is due to the fact that both Marc Staal and Michael Sauer have been out of the lineup. While there still has been no updates...

No One Cares That Rangers Lose Because Lundqvist Is Ok

The New York Rangers lost to the Edmonton Oilers last night in what was a very entertaining game to watch, despite the loss and shutout. But, when Henrik Lundqvist removed himself from the game midway through the third period, every single Ranger fan said “oh crap”. But, according to the MSG broadcast, the All-World goaltender was just cramping up. The Oilers are a very fast...

Tortorella Takes Shot At Wolski; Status Uncertain

In the preseason, Wojtek Wolski was slated to be the top line left winger on a line with Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik. After having a decent preseason, Wolski played in the first game of the regular season with the Rangers before missing the next four games with a groin injury. The Rangers eventually found a great replacement for him on the top line in Derek Stepan, which leaves...

Henrik Lundqvist Quote: It Was Nothing Serious

It was nothing serious. I’ve had issues with my skates, and the last few days I’ve had a lot of pressure on my feet and I couldn’t move the way I wanted to move. Today it was pressure on my left foot. We tried to fix it during intermissions because it was bothering me the [...]

After Six Sub-Par Games, Is It Time To Panic On Broadway?

The Rangers now have six games in the books so far this season and other than Henrik Lundqvist, it’s hard to find any sort of bright spot on this team. They now sit at 2-2-2 which currently has them 11th in the Eastern Conference. After yet another lackadaisical effort against the Oilers Saturday night it might be [...]

Pregame: Rangers Go for the Trifecta in Edmonton

Having played two games of their western Canada road swing, the New York Rangers earned back-to-back needed wins against the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames to improve to 2-1-2 on the season. Tonight they seek their third win of the season and the road trip when they enter Edmonton to take on the Oilers at Rexall Place. The Blueshirts have had much success against the Oilers...

Postgame: Rangers Hit New Low in Loss to Oilers, Coach Adds to Embarrassment

Earlier in the day I was filling out an interview and one of the questions asked which of the Rangers' games so far this season was the worst in my opinion. Had I filled that interview out tomorrow, instead of today, tonight's 2-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers would have been my answer.  There are no excuses for what we saw out of this team tonight. Everyone knew the Oilers...

Rangers' Hank skates past injury concern

Both Henrik Lundqvist and John Tortorella said there were no concerns about the goaltender's health. But as for the rest of the team, the Rangers need to work on their "overall game, top to bottom" after they "sucked from head to toe" in Saturday night's 2-0 loss to the Oilers. That's what Tortorella said after the Blueshirts practiced at the scene...

Wolski ignores Tortorella's dig

CALGARY -- Wojtek Wolski took the high road, which was pretty much the only sane way for him to go, by claiming yesterday morning he did not know he had essentially been called a malingerer by coach John Tortorella on Wednesday and he did not want to know what the...

Rangers shutout, streak snapped in 2-0 loss

The Rangers crawled through 60 minutes Saturday night in a 2-0 shutout loss to the Oilers, but the club held its breath when goaltender Henrik Lundqvist left the ice bent over and grimacing with 11:34 remaining in the third period.

Rangers-Oilers Preview

Injuries to New York Rangers defensemen Marc Staal and Michael Sauer have opened the door for Ryan McDonagh. The former first-round pick is certainly making the most of his opportunity. McDonagh and the Rangers try for a third consecutive win when they visit the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night. McDonagh, who is averaging more than 25 minutes of ice time while Staal (concussion...
