DETROIT -- If this was Joey MacDonald's swan song for this season, he certainly went out on a strong note. MacDonald had to make 31 saves, some of them spectacular, to help the Red Wings defeat their nemesis, the San Jose Sharks, 3-2, and extend their NHL record home win streak to 23 games. Although it might not sound all that impressive when you consider the overall home win streak, the Wings went 6-0 on the home stand. That's kind of rare in itself. "It's great to be the guy to get thrown in there every single night, to take some of the pressure off Howie (Jimmy Howard) for a little bit," MacDonald said. "Howie's been playing a lot, he had quite a streak going. "He'll be back here the next game and just got to keep building on it and be ready for my next start." When the season is over and done, we might look back and say MacDonald's biggest contribution was buying Howard extra time to recover from his broken right index finger.
