According to TSN.ca, the Toronto Maple Leafs have placed veteran defenceman Jeff Finger on waivers. Coach Ron Wilson says that if he clears waivers, he will be sent to the American Hockey League where he will join the Toronto Marlies.
“It’s not so much just a business move,” Wilson told the media on Tuesday. “We’ve got seven guys better than him right now. That’s what it came down to.”
Finger, who signed a four-year, $14 million contract in the summer of 2008, has been a healthy scratch on multiple occasions since coming to Toronto. The 30-year-old has been involved in trade rumors for over a year now, after being a disappointment from the start.
The Maple Leafs will have just over $4.8 million in cap space once Finger is demoted.
