On a night where the Detroit Red Wings looked sloppy, slow and tired, the Nashville Predators completed their second ever playoff series victory with a 2-1 Game 5 victory on Friday night at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. It certainly had to be disheartening for Red Wing coaches, management and fans to watch its team come out with its worst performance of the series in an elimination game....

Babcock hopes Red Wings make splash in free agency

The Detroit Red Wings have slipped from being regarded as an elite NHL team, getting knocked out of the playoffs in the first round after consecutive second-round exits. Just three years ago, the team was a win away from repeating as Stanley Cup champions and seemed set up to sustain the success it and its fans have gotten used to for a couple decades. Detroit coach Mike Babcock...

Preds finish Wings, believe best is yet to come

NASHVILLE Entering their Western Conference Quarterfinal series with Detroit a team that they had not beaten in two previous postseason meetings the Nashville Predators were confident, but not cocky. That confidence helped them to prevail, winning the series in five short games punctuated by Friday's 2-1 win at Bridgestone Arena in Game 5. The brevity of the series might...

Red Wings overnight report: don’t expect satisfactory answers from the Wings’ locker room clean-out

Joe Louis Arena’s ice surface wasn’t available on Saturday afternoon, and with “WWE Smackdown” coming to town on Monday (Shea Weber hasn’t asked for tickets yet), it’s incredibly likely that the Red Wings, who flew home after their playoff ouster on Friday night, will assemble today to take their team picture on the ice, and then speak to the media while cleaning out...

Radulov’s Value

One of the more interesting stories of the stretch run was the way the NHL broke its own rules to get Alexander Radulov to return despite the fact he may only be returning to the league for a handful of games at the end of one season and then return to Russia.  Radulov is playing essentially to get out of his entry level contract as fast as possible.  He is a restricted free agent...

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock didn...

Western Conference Quarter Final: Game 5 – Detroit @ Nashville

Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images The task is at hand. A first for the Nashville Predators to take a 3-1 lead in a series. All that is left is one more game… Detroit is going to throw everything they have at Nashville (as if that hasn’t been done all series) and Nashville must find a way to stave off the onslaught and score on the few opportunities the Red Wings give.
