The Lightning have been off to a good start on this short season. There has been great offensive contributions so far and today, one of their own was named the NHL’s third star of the week. Veteran right winger Martin St. Louis won the honors as the NHL made their announcement today. Here is the release: St. Louis tied for second in the NHL with eight assists and ranked third with 11 points as the Lightning won four of five games to open the season. He scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in a 6-3 win over the Washington Capitals Jan. 19 and recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-3 defeat at the New York Islanders Jan. 21. Patrick Marleau and the Sharks are making things look easy

When making your MVP predictions for the 2013 NHL season, did you include Patrick Marleau on your list? You can be honest - I didn't either. Marleau, as well as the bulk of his San Jose teammates, carried rather small expectations into the year following the lockout. For the first time in a long time, seemingly no major outlet considered San Jose to be a true Stanley Cup contender...

Patrick Marleau: still smokin’

With tedious regularity, Patrick Marleau scores two goals. Of course it's not tedious at all, it's a beautiful thing. Someone should write a song about it. MVP So Far This Season

I have been interested in trying to establish when the NHL award winners take over the lead in their award during the course of the season for many years.  As a result, I have made picks for the NHL awards as soon as I can in the season and re-assessed those picks when necessary - in some cases many times in a season and in other cases that player held the lead for the award the...
