Yesterday, I posted about how the newly acquired CT Whale player Brandon Mashinter could be someone who sparks this Rangers team. While they obviously didn't need him last night, the fact that John Tortorella doesn't feel comfortable giving Mike Rupp (4:28) or Stu Bickel (3:27) more than five minutes of ice time, means there's still a need for a fourth line energy guy on this team. So I decided I'm going to do a "Mashinter Watch" on the blog to follow along with his performances with the Whale. And it got off to a great start last night, as Mashinter scored in the Whale's 3-2 loss to Springfield. The goal was Mashinter's third in the eight games since joining Connecticut. He also has four assists and two fights. Watch Mashinter's goal (4:40 mark)... ...loving Mashinter's speed for a big guy. If he can keep this play going, the Rangers are going to have no choice but to call him up very soon. Also in the game, J.T. Miller...

Pyatt another savy addition by Sather

Pyatt has proven to be a nice addition so far by Glen Sather Strike up another successful acquisition by Glen Sather. Taylor Pyatt –all 6’4 and 230 lbs of him– has proven to be a solid add to the Rangers, even though we’re still too early in the year to make significant conclusions. Does Mashinter Deserve a Call-up?

Since the Rangers obtained Brandon Mashinter from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Tommy Grant, he has done nothing but impress for the CT Whale. The 6' 4" Mashinter has 2g, 4a in his seven games with the Whale and has been more than willing to drop the gloves when necessary, as seen here in last night's 5-4, OT loss to Bridgeport (2:15 mark)... Here...

Stability and Consistency Lead Rangers to Victory

When it comes to winning a hockey game in the NHL, teams must be consistent in their play and have some stability whether it is with their offense, defense or goaltending. Tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the New York Rangers got the stability in goal they needed from back-up Martin Biron (30 saves) and consistently put pucks on net in a 3-2 victory in Tampa Bay for their...

Backup goalie Biron guides Rangers past Lightning

TAMPA -- It took a backup goaltender, of all things, to finally slow down the Tampa Bay Lightning and to settle down the New York Rangers. Martin Biron made 30 saves behind a defensive effort that left difficult-to-impress head coach John Tortorella "really happy" Saturday, and the Rangers held on for a 3-2 win that broke the Lightning's five-game win streak. Tampa...

Time to Push the Panic Button?

Can everybody just take a deep breath? Yes, 3-4-0 is not the way you want to start a season, but give the Rangers some slack. They have had to begin their year with six games against three teams in the top-five in the Eastern Conference. New York played the Bruins, Flyers and Penguins twice with a contest versus the Maple Leafs in between. Now, this isn’t to say that the Blueshirts...
