Short of the season opener, this was probably the most anticipated game for Nashville Predators fans early in the 2013 season. Ryan Suter, the All-Star defenseman who misled the only franchise he’d ever known before signing with the Minnesota Wild on July 4, 2012, was finally going to play his old team. They say the ultimate revenge in sports is to win. In front of 17,540, the Predators did just that besting the Wild, 3-1, on Tuesday night in St. Paul, Minnesota. Nick Spaling, Martin Erat and David Legwand would get the goals for Nashville in the victory. Chris Mason, getting his first start in a Predators sweater since April 2008, turned aside 29 Minnesota shots en route to his first win of the season, 59th as a Predator and 137th of his NHL career. While he only gave up a single goal, the Red Deer, Alberta, native didn’t look his best. He constantly gave up rebounds, fumbled a couple routine glove saves and even looked uncomfortable in his own net at times. Of course, the best tim...

Fresh from Nashville, Suter still settling in

ST. PAUL, Minn. Ryan Suter is still trying to get used to playing with his new Minnesota Wild teammates following a crash-course, six-day training camp. The NHL lockout left Suter with limited time to adjust to new surroundings, and the quick training camp was followed by the emotion of debuting at home in Saturday's season opener. Then seeing his former team on the other bench...

The Importance of Being Chris Mason

By: Miranda Martin Miranda@Prednecknation.com Now more than ever is the time to have a good back-up goaltender. In this very short and very busy season, every NHL team is facing back-to-back games, generally with travel between. While this is very trying on every player, it is especially tiresome on a goalie. In a traditional  82-game season, it is generally acceptable for each...

Preds' Mason serves as ideal backup for compacted season

Last season, Nashville Predators coach Barry Trotz had the luxury of going to the whip hand with his thoroughbred goalie Pekka Rinne -- without the fear of wearing him out. In the early going, as his young team struggled to jell, Trotz rode Rinne hard to keep the Predators afloat. Late in the season, when he sensed that home-ice advantage for the Stanley Cupplayoffs would be crucial...

Mason a fine option in tight schedule

Led by star newcomers Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, the Minnesota Wild are looking to complete a perfect season-opening homestand and continue their best start in four years. To do so, they'll have to knock off Suter's former team, the Nashville Predators, who begin their road schedule Tuesday night trying to shake off back-to-back shootout losses. Brad Ratgen: Suter vs. The Preds: A Preview of Tonight's Home Game for Wild.

First off, a very happy birthday wish (belated) to both Dany Heatley (32) and Ryan Suter (28) who both share a January 21st birthday. That said, I’m sure the Nashville Predators have a special surprise or two they hope they have a chance to deliver to Suter who, up until this season, was a life long Predator. All indications were that Suter had implied that he would not leave...

Mason leads Predators to win over Wild

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Wild defenseman Ryan Suter knew it would be strange playing against the Nashville Predators for the first time, so it's only fitting that the game turned on a strange play. Nashville's Martin Erat took advantage of a costly Wild turnover, scoring his first goal of the season into an empty net as the Predators won their first game of the season, 3-1 at...

Predators Get First Win of the Season in Minnesota

The Preds snuck past the Minnesota Wild and Ryan Suter to get their first win of the 2013 abbreviated season. With goals by Spaling and Erat, Nashville competed all game but never looked like the best team on the ice. They had trouble handling Minnesota's top two lines and, in true Predators form, struggled to set up offensively. But none the less, the Preds avoided overtime...

Going Cup Wild In Minnesota

from Brian Cazeneuve of Sports Illustrated, Sure, hockey-crazed Minnesota has yearned for a successful team in the NHL, but a winning Wild would also be just as good for the league as it tries to recover from the long lockout that bruised its image. While Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles have won the last three Stanley Cup titles, Minnesota is hockey's answer to Green Bay...
