Mason Raymond faked Sergei Bobrovsky out of his jock for the lone shootout goal that gave the Vancouver Canucks a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Raymond, who has 12 points on the season, deked Bobrovsky with a spin-o-rama. He fooled the Columbus goalie so badly that he was looking at a completely open net when he completed the move. Though spin-o-ramas are allowed in shootouts, Columbus coach Todd Richards thought Raymond’s move was against the rules. “I have looked at it and I guarantee you that if you ask them (the Canucks), they’re going to say it was a good goal,” Richards said after the game, viaTthe Associated Press. “To me, it looks a little questionable. It looks like he does take a step backward. It looks like the puck is moving backward.” The Blue Jackets even wanted the officials to review the goal, but the referees chose not to. There was no reason to in my mind; spin-o-ramas are allowed in shootouts, and Raymond kept the puck moving the entire...

Mason Raymond’s shootout goal that shouldn’t have been (VIDEO)

NHL Rule 24.2 states, “The spin-o-rama type move where the player completes a 360° turn as he approaches the goal, shall be permitted as this involves continuous motion.” You tell me if the Canucks’ Mason Raymond maintained continuous motion in his shootout attempt Tuesday against the Blue Jackets Sergei Bobrovsky. The referee said he did.  The announcers were skeptical....

Sergei Bobrovsky makes a nice diving stick save in overtime

The Columbus Blue Jackets have been playing very well lately and even took the league-best Chicago Blackhawks to a shootout on Thursday night.  But, in order to get there, Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky had to make this awesome last-ditch effort stick save.  Now Chicago Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland should have lifted the puck, but it was still a great effort by Bobrovsky...

Patrick Kane undresses Sergei Bobrovsky in shootout

I’m pretty sure the shootout was created specifically for guys like Patrick Kane and Pavel Datsyuk.  There’s not a whole lot a goalie can do on this, even though Kane lost control of the puck, he still dangled Bobrovsky.  Bobrovsky has been playing really well for the past month, but he didn’t have a chance to stop Kane.  The goal gave the Blackhawks another win in a shootout...

Canucks 2, Blue Jackets 1, SO

Mason Raymond scored the only goal in the shootout, and seldom-used Roberto Luongo stopped 26 shots through overtime to lead the Vancouver Canucks past the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Tuesday night. Luongo, playing in his second game in 16 days, stopped all three Blue Jackets in the shootout. Raymond, shooting second for Vancouver, scored when he came to a quick stop, got goalie...

Luongo, playing in his second game in 16 days, stopped all three Blue Jackets in the shootout. Raymond, shooting second for Vancouver, scored when he came to...

Did The Flyers Trade The Wrong Goalie?

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Steet Bull, When general manager Paul Holmgren sent backup goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to Columbus for three draft picks last June, not many eyebrows were raised. Bobrovsky had seen little time behind Ilya Bryzgalov. But with the strike-shortened season more than halfway over, Bobrovsky has emerged as the NHL’s hottest goaltender. On Monday,...

Blackhawks Get Back On Track In Columbus

After three days off, it took 65 minutes and a shootout for the Blackhawks to get back in the win column on Thursday night.
