Mason Raymond faked Sergei Bobrovsky out of his jock for the lone shootout goal that gave the Vancouver Canucks a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Raymond, who has 12 points on the season, deked Bobrovsky with a spin-o-rama. He fooled the Columbus goalie so badly that he was looking at a completely open net when he completed the move. Though spin-o-ramas are allowed in shootouts, Columbus coach Todd Richards thought Raymond’s move was against the rules. “I have looked at it and I guarantee you that if you ask them (the Canucks), they’re going to say it was a good goal,” Richards said after the game, viaTthe Associated Press. “To me, it looks a little questionable. It looks like he does take a step backward. It looks like the puck is moving backward.” The Blue Jackets even wanted the officials to review the goal, but the referees chose not to. There was no reason to in my mind; spin-o-ramas are allowed in shootouts, and Raymond kept the puck moving the entire time. He just simply fooled Bobrovsky as bad as a goalie can be fooled.
