The National Hockey League has chosen to fine Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello $2,500 for his hit on Kyle Clifford of the Los Angeles Kings during yesterday's season opener in Stockholm, Sweden. Zuccarello was also given a minor penalty on the play for cross-checking.

This may sound a bit biased, but I don't really give a rat's tail if it does; there is no reason Zuccarello should be getting fined for this hit. He guided a player into the corner using his stick, Clifford went down and slid into the boards. The key word there is "SLID" into the boards. He was not directly shoved into the boards - his momentum carried him into them.

The penalty handed to Zuccarello was enough and the hit should've been forgotten from there. Clifford bounced right back up, so clearly he was not thrown into the boards too hard. Just take a look for yourself...

I'm pretty sure that last week someone left a comment on here saying that I was one of the people pansifying the sport, but they used trash language that I do not wish to repeat because I have class. I am not pansifying the sport, but fining players for hits like this is.

Check back in a bit for Rangers-Ducks pregame....
