NY Rangers Blog:
According to Rangers beat writer Steve Zipay, Matt Gilroy is returning to the organization...sort of.
LongIsland native----and former Ranger defenseman---Matt Gilroy has agreed to deal with AHL Whale
— Steve Zipay (@stevezipay) October 5, 2012
Gilroy is an unrestricted free agent, so whether he is simply coming closer to home during the lockout or whether he is attempting to parlay this into a full contract with the Rangers is unknown.
It's hard to have any qualms with his addition. He knows the organization and by all accounts is not problematic from a character perspective. And with Erixon gone and McIlrath injured the Whale are in serious need of help on the defensive end. In fact, here is a scary but real situation; should we actually have an NHL season and should a Rangers defenseman get hurt, Sean Collins and Mike Vernace are the best options we currently have in the AHL as call-ups. Even with his faults and shortcomings, I would gladly welcome...
BEST OF MAXIM
Welcome back Matt Gilroy to the New York Rangers organization. Recognizing that they are (very) thin on defense, CT GM Jim Schoenfeld turned to a familiar face by signing the former Ranger defenseman (per Larry Brooks).
Matt Gilroy has signed AHL contract with Whale. Prodigal free agent D presumably will sign with Rangers when lockout ends.
What Brooks adds there is an interesting...

...can you say insurance if the Rangers can't re-sign Del Zotto?
...while Gilroy wasn't terrible during his time with the Rangers, actually, one could argue he was their best defenseman against the Capitals in playoffs back...
HARTFORD, October 7, 2012: Connecticut Whale general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Matt Gilroy on an American Hockey League contract. Gilroy, who was the 2008-09 Hobey Baker Award winner as a senior at Boston University, has skated in 194 NHL games during his three years as a pro, with the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning...
When it comes to the New York Rangers' defensive corps, the team seems set for the forseeable future. On Broadway, the Blueshirts have the likes of Ryan McDonagh, Dan Girardi, and Marc Staal. Down on the farm or in juniors, the team has a group of solid defensive prospects. Yesterday, a former Rangers' defenseman jumped back into the fold in Matt Gilroy. Yesterday on Twitter...
17 days after we speculated Turris may have trouble attracting offers from European clubs...comes this news:
The good boys at hockeysverige.se report that #Sens Kyle Turris has signed with Kärpät Oulu of the Finnish league.

I know literally nothing about Kärpät Oulu but the Finnish league is a solid...

“Keep it simple” proved not to be that simple of a task for the new look Ottawa 67’s in their first 3 games of the season.
With 10 players from last year’s powerhouse squad now playing in the professional leagues, including 2 future NHLers Tyler Toffoli (LAK) and Shane Prince (OTT) with their combined 95...
A little late on this since the interview was conducted on Wednesday but **** it, it's the lockout *******!
As always, you can listen to the actual interview via the Team 1200's Facebook page.
My comments will be in bold.
