Newly acquired goal scorer Matt Moulson will reportedly be in the lineup tonight for the Buffalo Sabres against the Dallas Stars.
Moulson, who was acquired in a lopsided trade for sniper Thomas Vanek as well as a first and a second round draft pick, skated with his new team this morning and said he was “shocked” when he heard he was traded.
“I was on the couch at home to be honest, and I was pretty shocked,” Moulson said, “I think that it was a pretty big shock to come so early in the season. I’m going to continue to play my style of game no matter where I am, it’s the family and personal stuff that is the tough part,” he continued.
When asked if he had any clue he would be traded by the Islanders, Moulson said, “I honestly don’t think we had any talks. Obviously they didn’t want to have any talks” he continued. “I’ll miss them but I think they will be focused more on hockey.”
Sabres coach Ron Rolston said he anticipates Moulson will take Vanek’s spot on their top line with Cody Hodgson and Steve Ott.
“Matt Moulson’s got a heck of a resume the last four years putting up major, major numbers,” said newly named Sabres full-time captain Steve Ott. “He’s definitely going to help this squad as well.”
Head coach Ron Rolston agreed with Ott and said that he believes Moulson can make an immediate impact.
“I think that was important that we got somebody that could come in and help us,” Sabres coach Ron Rolston said. “When you lose Thomas [Vanek] it’s good to get somebody back in the room that has that presence.”
Only time will tell who the winner of this deal is but right now all signs point to the Buffalo Sabres.
