Ilya Bryzgalov got to face-off against his former team in front of thousands of Flyers' faithful tonight at the Wells Fargo Center, and nobody from Philadelphia left disappointed.

Bryzgalov stopped 30 of 31 shots in the victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. After the game, he and the team shared a more exuberant celebration than usual in the crease surrounding the goaltender.

Although Bryzgalov facing his former team was obviously the main storyline, the game's true hero was impressive rookie Matt Read. Read scored the game-winning goal with just 18.6 seconds remaining in the third period to extend the Flyers' point streak to eight games (6-0-2).

The Flyers put a few shots on Coyotes' goaltender Mike Smith in the final minute, and it was Read who finally cashed in for his sixth goal of the season. Read was all alone in front of the net after the puck came off of Max Talbot's stick and found its way to Read who drilled it home.

The news wasn't all good for the Flyers, however, as Jaromir Jagr didn't return to action after the first period. Jagr suffered a lower-body injury and will be re-evaluated tomorrow, but the injury does not seem serious. Paul Holmgren said after the game that Jagr may play on Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes at the Wells Fargo Center.

Several beat writers joked that it was a veteran move by Jagr, who may not have to travel with the team to snowy Winnipeg over the weekend.

On Saturday in Winnipeg, the Flyers will look to extend their three-game winning streak and avenge their 9-8 loss to the Jets on October 27th.

After Flyers’ Bryzgalov apologizes, Winnipeg fans ready retribution

Ilya Bryzgalov of the Philadelphia Flyers is, perhaps, our greatest goaltending philosopher currently manning the crease in the NHL. It's interview gold whenever he speaks, to the point where the Flyers attempted to control his irreverent whimsy. Look no further than his comments last season, when the then-Phoenix Coyotes goalie explained why he wouldn't want to relocate...

Winnipeg may be too cold, but Ilya Bryzgalov’s heart isn’t. Late Heroics From Read Helps Bryzgalov Shut Up Coyotes

The storyline heading into tonight’s game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Phoenix Coyotes was the fact that goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov would be facing his former team.  It wouldn’t have been that big of a deal, as teams lose players to free agency all the time, if it weren’t for the comments made earlier in [...]

Bryzgalov gives goalie stick to 8-year-old Jets fan booing him

Before the Philadelphia Flyers played in Winnipeg for the first time since 1996, goalie Ilya Bryzgalov had some amends to make.
