Paul in for George… Well, the coach may have a change of heart… Coach Mike Babcock is reconsidering who he’s going to start in net Friday when the Detroit Red Wings host the Nashville Predators in a game likely to determine who’ll finish fourth in the Western Conference. Babcock had decided on backup Ty Conklin as of Tuesday, but Howard is ready to return from a groin injury, and he’s got to play at some point. Babcock’s original thinking was that he didn’t want to put Howard in against the Predators because he hasn’t played since March 19, but on the other hand, Friday’s game is huge. “I’m a big believer in having a guy ready before he get’s into a situation like this,” Babcock said after practice today. He planned to talk the matter over with goalie coach Jim Bedard and then make a decision Friday morning. This via Helene St. James of the Freep where you can read more on the game. What do you think?

Howard in net for Wings tonight

Jimmy Howard will start for the Red Wings tonight when they play the Nashville Predators at Joe Louis Arena. A groin injury has kept Howard out the last four game. It's the second time in the last two months he's had groin problems. "Everything seems to be okay," coach Mike Babcock said after Friday's morning skate. "He (Howard) says he's feeling...

So we got a ton of questions submitted for the first NOHS roundtable and there were a ton of great ones in those.   So here's part one, answering four of the first questions submitted.   Let’s hear your thoughts on this as well, plus you can vote on which answer was the best after each comment.   Now, let’s get on with it! 1. Despite the fact that the Wings played...

Howard, Wings fail to stop surging Predators

DETROIT -- Things could change, but the Red Wings are looking at a first-round playoff matchup against the Nashville Predators, quite possibly without home ice advantage. If you're looking at Friday night's 4-1 loss to those same Predators, you wouldn't necessarily prefer that matchup. Why? Pekka Rinne. No, the Wings didn't lay the proverbial egg as they did in...

How to Beat the Goalie: Edition 13 3/30

Welcome Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators fans to the signature story on Fang Faction, 'How to Beat the Goalie.' This is edition thirteen since this has started. It has been a good while since this story has been made to "scout" the other team, but that is stopping tonight. The Nashville Predators take on a injured, Detroit Red Wings team, Friday night. The...

Red Wings Recap 3.28.2012

When this team is on, they are amazing. When they are off, it's ugly. Not many good things to mention after a game like this, so I won't bother trying.Recap after the jump: Conklin made no big saves tonight and the defense in front of him hung him out to dry a few times. He got beat by a bad bounce, two breakaways and a 2 on 1. I'm pissed that the 2 on 1 goal went...

Give Burke More Time

from David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail, ...Actually, Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland, who most of you will agree knows a thing or two about winning a Stanley Cup, believes it should be 10 years before a general manager should be judged. His argument is that’s how long it takes to change the culture of an organization after you take over. General managers cannot simply show...

Predators move ahead of Red Wings

DETROIT (AP) -- The Nashville Predators moved ahead of the Detroit Red Wings in the race for home-ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs and gave their coach a milestone. Gabriel Bourque and Francis Bouillon scored in the second period and Pekka Rinne made 31 saves to help Nashville beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Friday night for Barry Trotz's 500th victory with...

The Nashville Predators' record this season is 44-25-8 with 96 points and ranked 5th in the Western Conference. The Detroit Red Wings' record this season is 46-26-5 with 97 points and ranked 4th in the Western Conference. Puck drops at 6:38...

Red Wings-Predators quick take: Wings, you’ve got some serious-ass problems

My favorite TV show of all time, the Liam Lynch sock puppet spectacular that was Sifl n Olly, had a fake infomercial skit, and the tagline for Precious Roy’s cheap product of the night was, “Well, you know the problems I’ve had with X” by Sifl, answered with, “Yeah, you’ve got some serious-ass X problems!” from Olly. The Detroit Red Wings ended a lost month’s worth...

Rinne flexes his Vezina Trophy muscles as Preds topple Red Wings…

With a win against the Detroit Red Wings, the Nashville Predators would assume fourth place in the Western Conference standings. With a loss, they would fall three points behind Detroit and be in danger of falling into sixth with a loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. The Preds are now in fourth place. In front of 20,066 fans and grey seats, Nashville dealt Detroit just their...

Paul McCann: Game Night - Music City meets Motor City in Central Division Throwdown

It was a spirited practice at Bridgestone Arena yesterday before the Predators got on a plane and headed for Detroit for tonight’s showdown with the Red Wings. You could feel the difference in focus, in working on the little details, in energy. Pred Nation is hoping that translates to better on ice results in the team’s first game since clinching their playoff spot. ...

Mark Spizzirri: GAMEDAY: Predators vs. Red Wings; looking for the inside track

Perhaps too much is being made of tonight's likely first round playoff preview between the Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings (7:30 pm ET, FS Detroit), yet there is plenty on the line when both teams square off tonight at the Joe Louis Arena. With only two points separating Detroit, Nashville and Chicago in the race for 4th place in the Western Conference, tonight...

GDT - Game #77:  Red Wings at Blue Jackets (7:30)

DET (46-25-5), second in the Central today, have a golden opportunity to put some points up on NSH and catch them in the ROW tiebreaker column; thanks to the Blues 3-0 win over NSH last night.  Of course that means the Wings will actually have to win one on the road, something they have not managed to do at all this month, 0-4-2. Worse, they cannot score on the road either, 9 GF...
