Marek Mazanec said his mother has bombarded him with correspondence from his native Czech Republic. Thursday, a correspondent who works for a Czech television network arrived here and began sending dispatches back home. The 22-year-old goalie for the Nashville Predators, named the NHL Rookie of the Month for November, said he never expected such success so quickly while playing in his first season in North America. In all likelihood, his parents didn't either. "They watch it all the time," Mazanec said. "My mom's still bombing me with messages. It's crazy." Gone are the days when an Eastern European player with limited English skills would feel isolated and grow homesick in the NHL. Mazanec said he corresponds all the time with his family via Skype and other smartphone applications. Just as those apps can prove a godsend for a rookie with culture shock, Mazanec has proved a godsend for the Predators, who have battled through 23 of their 32 games ...

Bartley trying to “keep it simple” as his strong play continues for Nashville

For a player that has taken the long road to get to the NHL, trials and tribulations are nothing unfamiliar to Nashville Predators defenseman Victor Bartley. Recording his second point of the season, as well as his second in his previous five games, Bartley’s strong play as of late has given the Predators reason to move him onto Nashville’s second defense pairing with veteran...

Hutton taking advantage of second chance opportunity

Last week, the buzz around the Nashville Predators was more about what was needed to change the team in order to find a solution to their on-ice downfall rather than the on-ice product itself. It seems for the time being that talk has been squashed, mainly coming from the play of Carter Hutton in net for the Predators. Stopping 28 of 29 shots against the Rangers on Tuesday night...

Preds extend win streak to three as they beat Sharks

That 0-4-1 slide from a week ago seems like a distant memory, doesn’t it? On the strength of Eric Nystrom, Roman Josi and Viktor Stalberg goals the Nashville Predators beat the San Jose Sharks, 3-2, on Saturday night in front of 16,243 at Bridgestone Arena. Of course, 36 saves by Carter Hutton doesn’t exactly hurt either. The former Chicago Blackhawk and Rockford Ice Hog...

Is Trotz the NHL’s Version of Jeff Fisher?

By Greg Moshopoulos The Nashville Predators are 31 games into the 2013-14 season and hover around the .500 mark as they typically do from year to year before they make a playoff push (last year’s lockout shortened season not withstanding). As the Preds mire in mediocrity, the majority of the Western Conference has sailed past them and will force them to ...

Predators' home edge returns vs. Stars
