(Photo/Bruce Fedyck/USA TODAY) After a hot start to the 2013-14 season, Carter Hutton has fallen off a bit as a National Hockey League goaltender for the Nashville Predators. Marek Mazanec has had to pick up the slack and has done a great job doing so. Following Pekka Rinne‘s injury in October, Hutton had taken over the starting goaltender role for the Predators and had a great few games. However, after only allowing four goals in his first three games of the season, the 27-year-old has allowed four goals or more in four of his last seven games. With the former UMass Lowell River Hawk standout goaltender struggling, Nashville has had to lean on rookie goaltender Mazanec and likely will until the return of Rinne to game action. Mazanec has posted a 5-4-1 record with a 2.00 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and two shutouts in 11 appearances, which has earned him the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for November. With the rookie net-minder having a great opportunity to play and taking advantage of it Hutton has not seen game action since Nov. 15. It is more than likely the Thunder Bay, Ont. native has been relegated to the backup goaltender role once again and will stay there for the time being. This season, Hutton has posted a 4-3-1 record with a 3.39 goals-against average, .891 save percentage in 10 appearances for the Predators. The former Hockey East Second All-Star Team goaltender picked up his first NHL win on Oct. 20 against the Winnipeg Jets. What a lot of Carter Hutton fans wanted to be a great opportunity for the goaltender to show his ability in net at the NHL level has not turned out for the best. For now Hutton is happy with be on an NHL roster and backing up the November Rookie of the Month and he took to twitter to congratulate his fellow goaltender: Congrats to my boy @mazanec222 on the rookie of the month award, well deserved more impressive he does it with his gloves on backwards — Carter Hutton (@CarterHutton) December 3, 2013 The post Carter Hutton has taken a backseat for the Predators appeared first on View from 123.
