BRADY SKJEI RUMORS & GOSSIP

Gordie Talks Prospects

Last week, Rangers Director of Player Personnel Gordie Clark was on Sirius XM radio to talk about some of the Rangers’ blue chip prospects with Shane Malloy and Russ Cohen. Hockeyprospect.com has the audio here in its 30 minute entirety and I’ll highlight some key points below. Brady Skjei:“Last year, he had the year you would hope for.” “Plays in every situation.” ...

Quick prospect note: Skjei week-to-week

Just a quick note: 2012 1st round pick Brady Skjei, currently on the top defense pairing at Minnesota, is week-to-week following a lower body injury. Skjei had put up 1-2-3 in 6 games with the top-ranked Golden Gophers prior to the injury. Skeji is likely to turn pro following this season with Minnesota. HF: Skjei tops Rangers prospects

Leslie Treff at Hockey’s Future has updated her prospect rankings, and Brady Skjei has taken over the top of the list. That is different from Corey Pronman’s rankings, that had Pavel Buchnevich as the top prospect in the system (Skjei was ranked #4). Treff noted that Skjei has found some offensive upside in his game, […] The post HF: Skjei tops Rangers prospects appeared first...

McLeod: Mid-summer Hot Stove League hockey report

Rau returns to the Gophers: All-America co-captain Kyle Rau has announced he'll return to Minneapolis to help lead the Gophers during the 2014-15 season. He made the announcement recently during the Florida Panthers NHL Prospects Camp. He was Florida's third-round draft pick in 2011. Unfinished business: In revealing his decision to return for his senior season, Rau made it clear...

Quick notes: Skjei returning to NCAA; No “real” offer made to Stralman

Some quick notes (before I head off to Aruba…yea, be jealous) about the prospects, free agency, and those who left the Rangers. Brady Skjei, who by all accounts appears to be NHL ready, will be returning to the University of Minnesota for his junior year. Skjei is a first pairing defenseman with the club, and […] The post Quick notes: Skjei returning to NCAA; No “real” offer...

Prospect Camp Day 1 Highlights

Before I get to the insanity that is Day 1 of free agency, I figured I’d start the day with some video, interviews and recaps from Day 1 of the Rangers prospect camp. Obviously the highlight of the day was the scrimmage… …really not much to take out of a 1:30 highlight package, except that this year’s second round pick Brandon Halverson didn’t exactly look like Brodeur...

Prospect Update: Skjei Scores Three (With Video) ; Duclair MVP Finalist

Defensively efficient prospects unfairly take the backseat to the skilled offensive guys. A three-point game and a nice move in the shootout makes for a good highlight video whereas a couple good pokechecks and neutral zone interceptions do not. It’s easy to look at a statsheet and see that a player had two goals, and therefore surely did something right. But there’s little in...

Michigan solidly defeats Gophers men's hockey

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a game that meant little in the grand scheme of things, the top-ranked University of Minnesota men's hockey squad suffered a one-sided, 6-2 loss at No. 13 Michigan on Saturday night. One night after clinching the Big Ten conference's regular-season title, Minnesota found itself in a huge early hole. Host Michigan blitzed the visitors to the tune of four unanswered...

2014 WJC: Skjei, Buchnevich continue strong play

Aside from three straight USA wins, one thing that has been very nice to watch over the past few days is the impressive play of the Rangers prospects in action in the 2014 World Junior Championship. Both Brady Skjei (USA, 2012 1st) and Pavel Buchnevich (Russia, 2013 3rd) have had strong tournaments thus far, and have been key cogs as both teams look towards the elimination round...
