ST. LOUIS Andy McDonald isnt a fan of how Alex Ovechkin decided to duck the NHL All-Star game. On Wednesday, the St. Louis Blues forward took to his Twitter account (@10_AMac) to show his displeasure for how Ovechkin, a Washington Capitals forward, decided to forgo the All-Star game to be held Sunday in Ottawa. Ovechkin, a two-time MVP, was named to the All-Star roster earlier in January. But, on Monday, the NHL suspended him without pay for three games following an illegal hit on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Zbynek Michalek the day before. Afterward, Ovechkin told reporters my heart is not there, and he questioned why he must attend the festivities if he is suspended. He also voiced a fear of becoming a target and said, Im not deserving to be there right now. Meanwhile, the explanation did not sit well with McDonald, who has missed the last 46 games with a concussion. He has been out since sustaining the head injury in a loss to the Dallas Stars on Oct. 13. classless move by @ovi8 opting out of NHL Allstar Game, McDonald wrote. In a later tweet, McDonald defended his stance. Some bitter caps fans out there? he wrote. Thought you would want to see your player showcase his skill at ASG! McDonald went on to retweet fans who agreed with his criticism of Ovechkin. For his part, Ovechkin has not responded to McDonald. On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Penguins forward James Neal was announced as Ovechkins replacement on the All-Star roster. The Blues, two points behind the Detroit Red Wings for first place in the Central Division, return from the break by hosting the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 3.
