Amidst the euphoria of the lockout ending yesterday, I totally forgot to post this fight of Dylan McIlrath pounding another Adirondak Phantom (aka Baby Flyer) Saturday night... McIlrath had also disposed of a Phantom player Friday night. ...Jesus Christ this kid throws bombs. ...despite my excitement for McIlrath's fisticuffs, I highly doubt he'll get an invite to Rangers camp, especially because he just returned from a dislocated knee cap that kept him out the first half of the season. Could Miller be the next new Ranger?

Could Miller swap US red white and blue for New York’s? When the Rangers hit the ice in the next couple of weeks, a player with plenty of momentum and a huge chance of making the Rangers opening night roster will be J.T. Miller. Physically mature and improving with every game he plays, Miller had an impressive World Junior’s, growing in importance with each game as the American...

9 Questions As New York Rangers Training Camp Approaches

I don’t want to talk about it. You don’t want to read about it. There are plenty of places you can go for your lockout wrap-up information fix, but this article isn’t one of them. Was it stupid? Yes. Am I pissed off? Yes. But you know what? Like most hockey fans I’m moving on, [...]

Rangers Meeting With Redden to Discuss Future

Rangers and Wade Redden's camp meeting today which might help clarify his future. — Craig Custance (@CraigCustance) January 8, 2013 Redden's $6.5 million per year salary will count against the Rangers cap this year and next year even if he's playing with the Whale. The Rangers are said to be interested in using an amnesty buyout on Redden this summer. They...

Forecasting Biron’s role in a lockout shortened season

With pucks set to drop in just a few short weeks, many questions will arise going into an abbreviated training camp. One of the biggest questions about the Rangers roster specifically is, just how much should we expect to see Martin Biron this season? In two full seasons with the Rangers, Martin Biron has played in 17 and 21 games, or 20% and 26% of the season. This year will be...

Analyzing Potential Amnesty Buyouts For The New York Rangers

As the NHL and NHLPA finalize the new CBA it seems a virtual certainty that an amnesty buyout - the ability to buyout a player's contract with no cap penalty - will be part of it. In fact, it is likely that each team will have two at their disposal for the next two summers. So while teams are going to have to wait until the offseason to utilize their amnesty buyout(s), it'...

Jan Levine: Rangers and the 2013-14 Cap, e.g. the MDZ/Redden Questions

Hat tip to Downeaster for some of this information. I will get more into the 2013-14 cap in a subsequent article, but wanted to focus on this year’s cap and current roster given the news that Wade Redden’s contract cannot be buried in the minors with the Rangers getting cap relief. Everyone first thought that that the two buyouts afforded as part of the soon to be ratified...

Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist takes a shot at BizNasty

Many NHL players were excited over the lockout ending, but this was definitely the funniest interaction that took place.Hahahaha. Bingo @hlundqvist30. You’re the man Hank.— Paul Bissonnette (@BizNasty2point0) January 7, 2013Phoenix Coyotes forward Paul Bissonnette is all about the self-deprecating humor so he clearly loved this chirp from Henrik Lundqvist.  The NHL training...

Kreider Still With CT Whale

Steve Zipay at Newsday is reporting that Chris Kreider has not joined his Rangers teammates at informal practice yet and remains with the CT Whale. Zipay adds that he's not sure what the rules are regarding AHL players participating at informal practice with the CBA not yet ratified. This weekend, Larry Brooks at the New York Post reported that Kreider took a shot to the...

Andrew Yogan recalled to Connecticut

Connecticut recalled forward Andrew Yogan back to the AHL today, which is a move that was likely made due to Chris Kreider’s impending departure for the NHL. Yogan was originally sent to the Greenville Road Warriors of the ECHL on November 29 after missing the majority of the season to that point with injuries. In the 15 games since his demotion, Yogan put together a scoring line...

Del Zotto Seeking Contract Worth More Than $3 Million Per

Katie Strang at ESPN.com reports that Michael Del Zotto was previously seeking a multiyear deal for more than $3 million a year. Strang adds that  it is not immediately clear if that stance has softened given the time-sensitive situation and Del Zotto's lack of leverage. Here's Del Zotto on getting a deal done... "I'm hoping to get something done as soon...

They're Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

15 Rangers returned to the ice at the MSG practice facility today including Brad Richards, Brian Boyle, Anton Stralman, Ryan McDonagh, Marc Staal, Arron Asham, Derek Stepan, Mike Rupp, Ryan Callahan, Rick Nash, Taylor Pyatt, Jeff Halpern, Michael Del Zotto, Carl Hagelin and Steve Eminger. ...and all is right in the world. Lundqvist Arrives at Camp

After missing yesterday's informal practice, Henrik Lundqvist arrived today and discussed the pressures of being a Stanley Cup favorite (via Blueshirts United)... “I think it's going to be important how we handle the pressure we put on ourselves and the pressure we will feel from the outside. We had a great year last year, but we worked really hard for it, so we have...

Food for thought: Can the King keep streaking?

Can the King keep his streak alive? In my humble opinion, despite the absence of a Stanley Cup, Henrik Lundqvist is already the greatest goaltender ever to wear Ranger red white and blue. Likely to reach four hundred career wins with ease (health allowing), a legitimate chance at a Stanley Cup, and numerous additional Vezina’s, there won’t be much the superstar Swede won’t...

Happy to be Back

Well folks, it is finally over. With a new CBA agreement in place, we can now look forward to what should be a very interesting New York Rangers' season. With a shortened season and the Rangers known for being a streaky team, a good start out of the gate could end up leading to something special for the Blueshirts. What's interesting is that after the 1993-94 season...
