The Penguins took another big hit on the injury front this weekend as Zbynek Michalek broke a finger while blocking a shot and will be out at least a month. This may be as costly of an injury as Crosby or Malkin as Michalek has been an absolute monster for the Pens in the first few weeks of the season. The pairing of him and Martin have been one of the best pairings in all of hockey at full strength and missing his presence could prove quite costly for the Pens. Michalek was also an anchor for the NHL’s best penalty killing units as well. Luckily the Pens are blessed with enough depth to whether the storm. Expect to see Lovejoy, Engelland, and Niskanen dressing every day now instead of being the revolving door that everyone expected for the final two spots. Lovejoy will especially need to step his game up if the Pens are going keep their stride.
