Pro Sports Daily:
The Coyotes were already expected to deal from their strength -- defense -- in order to pick up some much needed scoring help up front. Trading two prospects and a draft pick to bring defensive-minded blue-liner Zbynek Michalek back to Phoenix only solidified that belief. Michalek will likely fill the salary slot of unrestricted free agent Michal Rozsival, who made $5 million last year and won't be coming back. Michalek was a big favorite of Coyotes GM Don Maloney, who was upset when he was outbid for the free agent in the summer of 2010. When the chance to bring Michalek home and give coach Dave Tippett another one of "his kind of player" on the bench, he pulled the trigger and was only too happy to help the Penguins lighten up their payroll. There were a lot of trade rumors swirling around Keith Yandle, who has another four years and $21 million on his contract. The Coyotes can afford to sign a high-priced free agent who can be a consistent 30-goal scorer, but da...

from Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic, So when a trade executed at the NHL draft on Friday paved the way for his return, Michalek was just as eager as the Coyotes to reunite.
“That team’s really close to my heart; so is the city, and I know they have great fans,” Michalek said. “I’m really happy to be back, and hopefully I can continue playing the way I was when...
In the summer of 2010, Shero was all about the Pens' blue line. He signed Paul Martin and Zbynek Michalek to lengthy deals. And now only Paul Martin remains. Michalek is gone.
His 2010-2011 season made Shero look like a genius. From even the first preseason game, we all could see that Michalek's size alone was something the Pens' blue line needed. Then as...
Shortly after the completion of the first round of the NHL draft Friday night, the Coyotes acquired defenseman Zbynek Michalek from the Penguins in exchange for defenseman Harrison Ruopp, goaltender Marc Cheverie and the 81st selection in the draft.
The 29-year-old Michalek spent five seasons with the Coyotes from 2005-10 and is coming off a season in which he collected two goals...

Holland has already said that he would consider a trade, and one name that surfaced in rumored trade talks during the draft is that of Keith Yandle. Continue reading →
from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, Keith Yandle’s name was hot on the trade rumor mill Friday.
“He’s definitely in play,” a rival GM told ESPN.com Friday.
A Phoenix Coyotes source downplayed the rumors, saying only that teams were calling on the star defenseman, not the other way around.
Yandle has four more years left on his deal, which carries a $5.25 million cap hit.
Pro Hockey Talk reported this morning that Keith Yandle is potentially available via trade and immediate I had a raging cactus in my pants. Unlike the rumors for Rick Nash, which I believe would be a ******* stupid move on the part of the Bruins, Yandle would bring some much needed upgrade to an already good defensive group. Now let me preface this by saying that I'm a big Yandle...
from Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly, A source told CSNPhilly.com early Saturday morning that Penguins general manager Ray Shero is working hard to get Suter’s rights from Nashville.
Even though Suter has expressed specific interest in staying in the Western Conference – and going to either Detroit or Minnesota in free agency – Shero feels he has strong ties to Suter as having...

With the Pittsburgh Penguins playing host to the 2012 draft, it surely wasn’t a surprise that they went out of their way to steal the show for themselves.
In one evening, the team traded away one of the franchise’s biggest faces, a substantial member of the team’s blue line, and continued to add to their massive stack of...
