This made the rounds on Twitter last night, but it's worth repeating and seeing in its larger form on the Detroit News's Red Wings blog, as intrepid Detroit News sports photographer David Guralnick captured a rather remarkable moment during last night's Red Wings win over Phoenix:
I haven’t seen a replay of this moment from the second period last night but after Justin Abdelkader sent Phoenix’ Zbynek Michalek into Detroit’s bench it looks like Mike Babcock is fortunate to have his head still on his shoulders this morning.
Guralnick's on Twitter (he takes requests for Wings players fans want to see in his gallery) and his images from last night's game can be seen here in the News's slate of Wings photo galleries.

DETROIT The Red Wings might have to try to win Thursday without one of their top scorers.
Wings coach Mike Babcock said Johan Franzen, who is second on the team with 13 goals, was not able to finish Wednesday night's 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
"Don't know a whole bunch," Babcock said. "They just took him off the bench, or made him sit on the bench...
The Detroit Red Wings' playoff hopes begin and end with goaltender Jimmy Howard.
It would be nice if one of Detroits skilled forwards suddenly regained his goal-scoring touch, which would take some of the burden off of Howard.
But realistically, which forward seems ready to step up and be a goal-scoring machine?
Except for Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, there isnt another...
I know where I was, twenty years ago today, at the very moment that Brad May shocked the hockey world.
I was at my friend Dave's wedding reception. Me and 100 of the wedding guests were camped out in the hotel bar. All due respect to Dave and his lovely bride and their families, I led the exodus to the smoky bar to watch the "May Day" moment on the Sony Trinitron...
Jonathan Ericsson’s beautiful pass to Pavel Datsyuk helped get the Detroit Red Wings on the board Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Kings. And Henrik Zetterberg’s display of skill in the third period helped put the clutch 3-1 win away.
First, it was Ericsson, the Red Wings’ hulking defenseman, who fired a no-look feed across the ice to Datsyuk. Detroit’s assistant captain...
Red Wings blank the Coyotes, as Jimmy Howard pulls up his 4th shutout this season, winning 4-0 and pulling up 2 completely crucial points. The Red Wings finally came out in a game and played like a team who’s season is on the verge of ending. While generating very little in the area [...]
The Red Wings come through once again, pulling themselves into 8th place, and playoff contention by 1 point over Columbus, in a 3-1 victory over the Kings. The Red Wings finally came out and played like a team that has something to prove right off the get-go. While there were no goals in [...]
The Grand Rapids Griffins are headed to the playoffs for the first time since 2009 after clinching their first division title since 2006. The Griffins, the Detroit Red Wings’ AHL affiliate, hold the No. 3 seed in the postseason and will take on the sixth-seeded Houston Aeroes in a best-of-five.
Here’s the schedule for that matchup:
Game 1 – Fri., Apr. 26 – Grand Rapids at...
Now that the Detroit Red Wings control their own destiny, they hope to make it count.
After their latest victory moved them back into playoff position, the Red Wings look for a third straight win Thursday night when they face the visiting Nashville Predators, whom they've shut out in the last two meetings.
Detroit (22-16-8) has earned at least one point in six of seven games...
Thursday April 25th will mark the end of a an era for the Nashville Predators. Next season's realignment will move the Detroit Red Wings to an inferior "Conference II" in the Eastern time zones where they will rekindle some of their own old rivalries. Us Pred fans though will lose the biggest rival this franchise has ever seen. I would like to take some time to say...

Following a disappointing "mini" road-trip through Western Canada where the Detroit Red Wings were only able to garner one out of a possible four points, they return to the Joe Louis Arena to take "control of their own destiny" in commencing their final week of the regular season hosting the Phoenix Coyotes (7:30 PM ET...
