SAINT PAULMINNEAPOLIS, Minn. Captain Mikko Koivu will represent the Wild at the 2012 NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa on January 29.
Koivu has collected 33 points (9-24=33) and 14 penalty minutes (PIM) in 39 games this season. The 6-foot-3, 217-pound native of Turku, Finland leads the Wild in points, assists, plus-minus rating (9), multiple-points games (7) and time on ice per game (21:22). In his seven-year career, he is the franchise leader with 245 assists, ranks second with 350 points, third with 105 goals and fifth with 472 games played. Koivu was originally selected by Minnesota in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Seven Minnesota Wild players have represented the team in past NHL All-Star Games: Marian Gaborik (2003, 2008), Filip Kuba (2004), Dwayne Roloson (2004), Brian Rolston (2007), Niklas Backstrom (2009), Brent Burns (2011) and Martin Havlat (2011).
