Washington Capitals’ Joel Rechlicz is known for being an AHL fighter, and will likely start the season there.  But before his preseason time in the NHL was done, Rechlicz made quite the statement when he got into a tussle with Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic.  Lucic is 6’3″ 205 lbs and Rechlicz is 6’4″ 212 lbs and this was probably the best fight you will see all year.  Rechlicz is a lefty and these two just kept throwing haymakers like Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.  This was an absolutely incredible fight. Milan Lucic-Joel Rechlicz Fight a ‘Fight for Men,’ Gives Bruins Winger Chance to Warm Up Fists

BOSTON — The Bruins probably don’t necessarily like Milan Lucic fighting too much. He’s a top-six forward who has shown an ability to score goals, and he also brings a physical presence that is undeniable. However, that doesn’t do him or the team much good if he’s watching games from the press box with a broken hand. But fighting is a part of Lucic’s game, and it makes...

The great wall of Chara: A look at the Bruins big man

Zdeno Chara (Photo credit: Brian Babineau/NHLI via Getty Images)   Zdeno Chara is one of the most recognizable players in the NHL and coming in at 6-foot-9, 256 pounds, there is no doubt why this is the case. In addition to being the largest man ever to play in the NHL, Chara is also recognized as having the fastest slap shot among NHL players.  His record 108.8 mph slap shot...

Patrice Bergeron Has The Best Team And Zone Adjusted Corsi

A few days ago I posted the top 20 players by team and zone adjusted Corsi ratings.  Leading the list was Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.  This is a strong argument that Bergeron is the best puck possession player in the NHL in 2013.  Bergeron is a top defensive forward with solid offensive skills.  He plays a tough role for the Boston Bruins where he plays against tough...

B’s Beat: Zdeno Chara Devours Bruins Teammate Reilly Smith’s Soul….Oops (VIDEO)

Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara misses devouring souls so much that he ate Reilly Smith’s. Just one problem, Smith is now a teammate of Z’s. Oops…the big guy has an insatiable appetite for destruction. Sorry Reilly it’s all about sacrifice to the Big Z.   Pot Of Baked Beans Goes To Reddit! The post B’s Beat: Zdeno Chara Devours Bruins Teammate Reilly Smith’s Soul….Oops...

Is Perreault odd-man out for Caps?

Mathieu Perreault has been down this road before having to prove himself to Bruce Boudreau and Dale Hunter. Now in his second year under Adam Oates he’s back in those same murky waters not exactly sure how he fits into the Capitals’ plans this season. “So far I’m just kind of looking at it from the outside and trying to figure it out” Perreault said Monday before catching...

2013-14 NHL Season Preview: Washington Capitals

This 2013-14 NHL season preview features the Washington Capitals. The Capitals have been one the NHL’s premier regular season team’s on the strength of their offense. They’ve put up multiple 100 point seasons, had a defenseman score 30 goals and several memorable, highlight reel goals. Unfortunately for Caps fans, that has yet to translate into playoff success, as they’ve...

Kelly's OT goal lifts Bruins over Capitals 3-2

Center Chris Kelly scored 3:39 into overtime and defenseman Zdeno Chara scored two goals to lead the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals in a preseason game Monday night. Kelly scored on a rebound of a shot from the left point by defenseman Matt Bartkowski. The Bruins outshot the Capitals 38-14. Goaltender Tuukka Rask made 12 saves, while Braden Holtby stopped...

Bruins power play looks revitalized

The era of the Bruins power play as league-wide punch line might finally be coming to an end. It was a constipated unsightly run last season for the Bruins. They ranked 26th in the NHL with a 14.8 percent success rate during the regular season and they have ranked in the NHL’s bottom third of power play success percentage in three of the last four seasons. During the playoffs...

Fehr has 2 goals and Caps top Predators 4-1

Eric Fehr had two goals and Mikhail Grabovski had three assists and the Washington Capitals earned a 4-1 preseason victory over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom each had a goal and an assist. Michal Neuvirth made 33 saves. Gabriel Bourque scored for Nashville. Grabovski, who was late to camp because of visa issues, assisted on both goals...

Ovechkin, Capitals aim for better playoff outcome

The patches of white in Alex Ovechkin's black hair are growing more pronounced. He turned 28 this month, he is the captain of the Washington Capitals, and while the Russian wing is coming off a third NHL MVP trophy, what he does not have at this point is much in the way of playoff success. ''Of course it's hard (to) realize you're getting older. And, of course...

Metropolitan Division Preview: Washington Capitals

The Philadelphia Flyers would like to formally welcome the Washington Capitals back to the neighborhood. Sure guys, we know it’s got a terrible name. We’re working on it. For those of you unaware, the Capitals and Flyers used to be in the Patrick Division together. From 1979 to 1993, the Flyers and Caps were divisional rivals until the NHL decided to shake things up. In fact...

Ovechkin not sure if he's going to Greece to carry Olympic torch

As of Tuesday it was still undetermined whether Alex Ovechkin would go to Greece for the Olympic torch passing ceremony. Caps general manager George McPhee said he didn’t know if arrangements had been made to get Ovechkin to Greece on Friday night and back in Washington Sunday night in time to practice Monday and fly to Chicago for the season opener. Ovechkin has said he wants...

The ugly loss to the Red Wings...

Photo via ESPN.comWhile it's true that the 2013-2014 NHL season is still several days away, it's never too early to start thinking about which teams will walk away the Stanley Cup champions.
