BOSTON — It doesn’t take much to make Milan Lucic angry, but he rarely gets as heated as he did Thursday night against the Colorado Avalanche. The Bruins power forward was assessed a costly 10-minute misconduct on top of a roughing penalty for his role in an altercation with Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog. That penalty kept the Bruins without Lucic until midway through the third period on the way to the Bruins falling 2-0 at TD Gaden. Lucic took issue with what he thought was what he perceived to be excessive rough-housing from Landeskog, a player not known for his rough stuff whatsoever. Lucic dropped one of his gloves and practically begged Landeskog to go with him, but the Colorado captain refused. That devolved into a shouting match between the two that seemed to go on forever. Finally, Landeskog said something that pushed Lucic over the edge, and he pushed the Colorado forward to the ice with one big left-handed shove. Before Landeskog could even hit the ice, the decision was lik...

Boston Bruins: No breaks in beantown

Last night the Boston Bruins had more shots on goal, hits, takeaways and more offensive zone time than their opponent, the Colorado Avalanche.  Unfortunately, they also had more penalty minutes and one more goal allowed in a 1-0 loss against the undefeated Avs.  Although new coach Patrick Roy has brought a new level of intensity to the Avalanche team, the loss had more to do with...

Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 39 saves in his 37th NHL shutout, and the Colorado Avalanche stayed perfect with a 2-0 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. The Avalanche are 4-0 under new coach Patrick Roy, their best mark since the franchise relocated from Quebec to Colorado for the 1995-96 season. Giguere, making his first start of the season, made several sparkling...

Boston Bruins Projected Lineup vs Colorado Avalanche

The Boston Bruins take on the Colorado Avalanche at the TD Garden Thursday night in the first of two games this season. It’s been exactly two years to the day since the Avalanche handed the Bruins a 1-0 loss in Boston and the B’s are winless in their last seven meetings vs. Colorado on home ice, at 0-5-1-1. It’s Boston’s longest such streak vs. any NHL opponent. But like...

Bruins vs Avalanche: Keys To the Game

The Bruins have played excellent in the past two games and now they look to the third game of the season. The team they're going up against? The Colorado Avalanche. The team Ray Bourque won a cup with because we couldn't get him one.The Avalanche have been in the rebuilding process for a few years now. They have added young star talent in Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog...

Patrick Roy Bringing Intensity and Structure to the Avalanche

Patrick Roy has brought intensity and structure with him behind the bench. Getty Images When Patrick Roy was named coach of the Avalanche, how he would do was uncertain. Would the greatest goaltender of all time (sorry Marty) be a good coach? Shouldn’t the Avs look for someone more seasoned after the fiasco with Joe Sacco? The more Roy spoke, the more convincing he became. At his...

Shawn Gates: Rambling NHL Ramblings for October 9th, 2013

Part of me wonders if the hardest part of Loui Eriksson being traded from Dallas to Boston is that he no sooner got used to one dialect: then he has to get used to another: Once the NHL places my dream team in *****, NFLD, I want Loui to get traded there and see how he deals with my go to play by play, colour, P.A. and interview guy: I picture his reaction being...

Colorado’s Win Over Bruins Latest Sign Patrick Roy’s Turnaround of Avalanche in Full Effect

BOSTON — The Colorado Avalanche almost certainly won’t win the Stanley Cup. There’s a good chance they won’t even make the playoffs. But it’s almost impossible to deny, even just four games into the season, that they won’t be a much better team than they were last year. That, of course, is not saying much. Colorado won just 16 games last season in the lockout-shortened...

Avs remind Boychuk of trade that changed life

The Colorado Avalanche came to town on Thursday night and that occasion always makes Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk thankful. It didn’t have a happy ending for the Black and Gold as they dropped a 2-0 game to the Avs on the strength of a 39-save performance from the ageless Jean-Sebastien Giguere but the Colorado/Boston story has crafted a happy ending for Boychuk. The 29-year...

Milan Lucic Rates Red Sox’ Beards, Gives Mike Napoli ‘A Perfect 10,’ Clay Buchholz An ‘A for Effort’ (Video)

Milan Lucic knows a thing or two about beards. Several recent playoff runs have given the bruising forward the opportunity to grow some serious facial hair, and playing with such accomplished beard-wearers like Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron has heightened Lucic’s ability to spot a good beard in the wild. While the Bruins hope to be growing more beards in the spring, they’re...

Three Concerns For the B's

You have to be impressed with the way the Bruins played in the first two games and especially how they played against the Detroit Red Wings. The third line has been stellar compared to last season and the rest of the team has followed suit. So what then can possibly be of concern for the big bad Bruins? Well first lets look around the league. And we don't have to look very far...

Tim Thomas injury could delay matchup against Boston Bruins

Photo By Mark BucknerOn the calender hanging in my kitchen, Thursday October 17th has been circled in red magic marker since the Florida Panthers announced they had signed two-time Vezina trophy winner Tim Thomas to a one-year contract. Now, it looks like that forged doctor's note I got from a back-alley "doctor" in Lawrence to get out of work that day is completely...
