Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller was named the NHL's First Star of the Week on Monday. Miller recorded back-to-back shutouts en route to winning all three of his starts last week. He stopped all 43 shots in a 2-0 win over Anaheim on Wednesday and denied 39 chances in a 1-0 victory over San Jose. He capped his week by besting Vancouver on Saturday. Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall was named the league's second star after recording two goals and five assists last week. Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery was the league's third star after yielding just one goal in all three wins last week.

They are fighting for the 8th playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and are one of the teams that you could easily envision playing spoiler for a top seed. Jets fans don’t just want...

Sharks announcers mock jinxes, then try to jinx Ryan Miller

Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres had a shutout near the end of the second period in the Sabres game against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. CSN Bay Area announcers Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda then break ANNOUNCER CODE (GASP!) and start talking about jinxing shutouts, a tenet that is also revered in the MLB during no-hitters. What do they segue their talk about jinxes into? An...

Ray Emery Leading Blackhawks Playoff Charge

Last year, when the Anaheim Ducks faced a season-defining stretch of games late in the season, they turned to Ray Emery. He did all that he could to help the Ducks make a push for the postseason, but Anaheim didn’t … Continue reading →

Video: Kronwall levels Flyers W with huge hit

Niklas Kronwall’s hit on Jakub Voracek Tuesday night was one that you could feel through the TV. The Red Wings were playing the Flyers in Detroit and almost midway through the second period Kronwall laid the back of his shoulder into the body of Voracek and absolutely crushed him. Voracek got up immediately following the hit but had very little understanding of where he was...

Red Wings’ Niklas Kronwall smokes Jakub Voracek

Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall lined up Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek at the Flyers’ blueline tonight, hoping to land an elbow or butt into Voracek’s body…But Voracek was leaning forward and hit Voracek shoulder-to-head. I don’t believe there was any intent to injure on Kronwall’s part, but this will certainly be reviewed as Voracek was woozy and left...

Fantasy Hockey ONE (3/5)

When elite players go into extended funks, what do or can you do?  Imagine a world where Tim Thomas and Ryan Miller are not Top 5 goaltenders in the league.  Miller is playing more like it to be honest but Thomas has cracked this year kind of like he did two years ago.  It is funny how these "sustained runs" can sometimes peter out unexpectedly....

Wings Niklas Kronwall tattoos Flyers Jakub Voracek

If Flyers winger Jakub Voracek has never met Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall before, he still hasn't. Voracek, skating with his head down just inside his own zone, looked up and Kronwall planted him into the Wells Fargo Arena ice surface. Voracek had his head down, picked it up for a split second to see the brick wall wearing #55 in red and white.

Sabres 5, Canucks 3

Ville Leino scored twice in the first 3:44 and Ryan Miller made 32 saves to help the Buffalo Sabres beat the NHL-leading Vancouver Canucks 5-3 on Saturday night, spoiling Zack Kassian's first games against his former teammates. Kassian, dealt to Vancouver along with Marc-Andre Gragnani in exchange for Cody Hodgson and Alexander Sulzer at the trade deadline Monday, scored his...
