From the Milwaukee Admirals:
ADMIRALS CAN’T STAND HEAT, FACE DO-OR-DIE
Game Three is Wednesday in Abbotsford
Milwaukee, WI – The Admirals held a 2-1 lead for the second straight game and for the second straight game the Abbotsford Heat mounted a comeback, this time beating the Ads 4-2 on Sunday evening at the Bradley Center. The Admirals could not take advantage of the power-play as they managed just one goal, a five-on-three tally, in seven chances. The Heat now take a 2-0 lead over Milwaukee in the best-of-five Western Conference Quarterfinals as the series shifts to Abbotsford.
In a scoreless first period the Admirals had the best scoring chance. After a Heat turnover, Chris Mueller led Milwaukee on a two-on-one attack on Heat goalie Danny Taylor. It looked as if Mueller had Taylor beat at with 7:31 left in the first but Mueller’s shot hit the post and stayed out of the back of the net.
The Admirals did not waste long to break the scoreless tie in the second period. Thirty-two seconds into the fame, Milwaukee took advantage of an Abbotsford turnover. Taylor Beck found Brodie Dupont in the face off circle, where Dupont fired a one-timer beating Taylor and putting the Admirals ahead 1-0.
After Milwaukee’s Ryan Thang and Kevin Henderson were called for penalties, the Heat took advantage of the five-on-three. After Jeremy Smith made an amazing save to keep the Heat scoreless, Abbotsford scored 30 seconds later. Brian Connelly found Krys Kolanos by the side of the net. Kolanos skated to the slot and beat Jeremy Smith tying the game at one.
The Admirals found themselves on the two man advantage in the second. Kyle Wilson sent a centering pass to Chris Mueller, who was at the far post but Taylor recorded the save. Milwaukee ran the same play later in the five-on-three and at the 13:26 mark time Mueller fired the shot past Taylor and the Ads took a 2-1 lead.
Abbotsford tied the game at two at the 14:59 mark of the second. Ben Walter scored the second goal for the Heat after he corralled the rebound to beat Smith tying the game at two.
The Heat took their first lead of the game at the 4:17 mark of the third period. Kolanos handled the puck into the high slot and fired a shot past Smith putting the Ads down one, 3-2.
Abbotsford’s Jon Rheault added an empty net goal to put the game out of reach for the Admirals at the 18:54 mark of the third.
