redwings.nhl.com:
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A couple of heady plays – one by defenseman Brad Stuart and the other by forward Tomas Holmstrom – helped the Red Wings to a lead Tuesday.
Unfortunately much, much more was needed to overcome a couple of bigge...

Red Wings forward Valtteri Filppula’s status uncertain, but it appears he escaped serious injury
DetroitRedWings.com’s Bill Roose offers at least decent news regarding Valtteri Filppula, who suffered a skate cut to the back of his left leg when he was accidentally slew-footed by Colorado Avalanche forward David Jones on Sunday:

If I'm Dan Cleary...
"If I’m Dan Cleary, I worry about forecheck, penalty killing, getting to the net. I don’t spend any time thinking about goal-scoring. You’d be amazed at how everything works out from there." --Mike BabcockThat quote comes to us from Khan(!) this morning. We know that everyone's favorite Newfie is having some trouble producing this year...and hell, Chris...
Wings Will Play Tonight Without Filppula
George asked me to update with any news on Flippula while he was out for a few hours…
from Ansar Khan of Mlive, Detroit Red Wings forward Valtteri Filppula won’t play in tonight’s game at St. Louis (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Net Detroit) due to the deep cut he sustained on his lower right shin Sunday in Colorado.
Filppula skated today at Scottrade Center, but didn’t feel comfortable...
Is it too late to ‘Vote for Jimmy?’
With less than a month left in the NHL’s All-Starfan balloting, Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, who was left off the ballot, is way down near the bottom of the “leader board,” but that hasn’t stopped WRIF 101.1 FM’s Meltdown from teaming up with the Wings to engineer a last-minute surge of fan support:
The Edmonton Journal’s Jim Matheson, via a Q and A session with...
Jimmy Howards rumbles with St. Louis Blues Player
Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard lost his cool on Tuesday night after getting run into by Blues’ winger, David Perron.
Howard was a little upset with the contact from the forward. He immediately went after Perron and caused a rumble behind the net. The Wings goaltender responded after the game saying, “I’m not taking that. If you’re going to try and run me like that...

Red Wings-Blues quick take: repetitive errors and the paper confidence tiger
The Detroit Red Wings dropped a 3-1 decision to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night because the Wings chose not to learn lessons from their 4-2 loss to Colorado on Sunday, at least until it was too late for anything other than a a final flourish: for the second game in a row, the Wings were out-worked, out-hustled and ground down by a team that paid just a little more attention...
Cut won't keep Filppula down
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Valtteri Filppula was counting his lucky stars Monday afternoon.
With 4:24 left in the first period of Sunday’s 4-2 loss at the Pepsi Center, Filppula was accidentally cut by a skate blade of a Colorado player. The ...
Realignment plan Wings can live with
DETROIT -- Sooner or later they had to do something, and they finally did.
In what many believe to be a bold move, the NHL Board of Governors on Monday approved a realignment plan that creates two seven team conferences and two eight team conferences that are geographically based and stress conference rivalries.
Pending final approval from the NHL Players' Association, the...

About NOHS
The Nightmare on Helm Street is an unofficial blog overwhelmingly dedicated to the Detroit Red Wings and the destruction of their enemies. Drew started a non-partisan blog in 2008 which failed miserably. He eventually created NOHS on the scorched Earth thereafter in July 2009. Chris was added as an author three months later. Both are washed up college hockey...
GDT - Game #26: Red Wings at Blues (7:30)
An important Central Division tilt tonight. The Red Wings (16-8-1) are three points out of the Central lead, with three games in hand on CHI. The Blues (14-9-3) trail DET by only two points.
Both teams play a similar game. Each are excellent at even strength (DET 3rd, STL 2nd), and are among the league leaders in GA/G. While DET’s PP unit swills some whiskey now and again...
Red Wings' Valtteri Filppula OK after cut to leg, may play Tuesday
Red Wings forward Valtteri Filppula needed stitches to close the gash but said today he feels fine and may play against the Blues Tuesday if he can get his skate adjusted so it doesn't run against the wound.
Time to shake blues from previous loss
The loss has lingered for three weeks since the Red Wings last played the Blues. The Wings got shown up in that Nov. 15 game, dropping a 2-1 decision as a result of being badly outplayed after the first period and failing to convert on six power plays. A few days later, the Wings began a seven-game winning streak, but that ended Sunday at Colorado after a similarly flat performance.
