Big decision looming for MDZ
Michael Del Zotto needs to be very conscious of how the next few days play out. How the young blueliner deals with the contract situation and the start of the upcoming abbreviated season is – to an extent – a crossroad in his young Rangers career.
The Rangers fan base can be an unforgiving one. When the crowd turns on you, the Garden can be a tough...
Per Bob McKenzie, the Rangers have agreed to terms with RFA defenseman Michael Del Zotto. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Del Zotto will be in camp today. MDZ was priority number one for the Rangers in their “preseason” agenda.
We will post more updates as they become available.
With Larry Brooks at the New York Post reporting that the Rangers are scheduled to take physicals Sunday morning, then be on the ice by early afternoon if the necessary CBA paperwork is completed, Steve Zipay at Newsday feels there's a chance Michael Del Zotto might not be signed in time for the start of training camp.
Here's Del Zotto...

These are the exact words that can be used to describe New York Rangers' defenseman Michael Del Zotto's new two-year deal with the club.
There is no doubting Del Zotto's offensive skills. Last season, Del Zotto was fifth on the team in the regular season with 41 points (10 goals and 31 assists) while adding another 10 (2 goals and 8 assists) in 20 postseason games....
Per Larry Brooks, the Rangers have agreed to terms with defenseman Matt Gilroy. The contract is believed to be for one year at $650,000. We noted that Gilroy adds some much-needed depth and flexibility to the Rangers blue line, and was number two on the list of things we can expect the Rangers can do with business operating as usual.
The New York Rangers signed defenseman Matt Gilroy to a one-year contract, and the New York Post reported the deal is worth $650,000. He provides depth for the Rangers after getting three goals and 17 assists in 67 games last season, which he split between Tampa Bay and Ottawa. Gilroy has been playing this season in the AHL with the Rangers' affiliate in Hartford, Conn.
Per Bob McKenzie, Michael Del Zotto and the Rangers have agreed to tentative terms and MDZ is expected in training camp today. Aspects of the deals are still being worked on.
With the news that the Rangers and MDZ were about 600k apart yesterday, I was pretty confident the team and player would agree on a contract. The Rangers were reportedly offered a two-year deal averaging...

The Blueshirt Bulletin is back
A nice quiet Sunday from the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects which allowed me time to work on interviews with Cristoval Nieves on Monday and then a surprise on Tuesday. Those interviews will be in the season opening issue of the Blueshirt Bulletin.
