After a poor finish to a three game road trip, the Islanders may be getting some good news.
Goaltender Al Montoya and forward David Ullstrom are scheduled to practice with the team today according to Newsday’s Arthur Staple. Both have been out since December 21 with concussions suffered during a game against the Winnipeg Jets.
According to the report, Montoya will not be ready in time for Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings at Nassau Coliseum and the team may call up Bridgeport goaltender Kevin Poulin. Poulin has been a roll as of late, posting three consecutive shutouts for the Islanders farm team and set an organizational record.
Anders Nilsson has played back up to Evgeni Nabokov for the past two weeks due to injuries to Montoya and Rick Dipietro. Nilsson’s only start of the season was against the Pittsburg Penguins back on November 21. He allowed 5 goals against in game remembered for the return of injured Penguins start Sidney Crosby.

Red Wings-Islanders set-up and overnight report: competition level’s a concern versus Islanders
If you happen to believe that the Detroit Red Wings tend to raise and lower their level of play to their perceptions of their opponent (see: the Wings’ first two games against St. Louis as an example), tonight’s game against the New York Islanders (7 PM EST, FSD+/MSG Plus/WXYT) is the kind of game that might incite a wee bit of worry, especially given the potential emotional...

The Sleepy Sunday
OK we admit it, because of all the hockey that we get to watch during the course of the season involving the NewYork Ranger and New York Islander prospects that there are days when the hockey is boring.
It is not a knock on the players because it's a long season and not every game is going to be a classic. Sometimes the winning ugly game is a lot better than losing the...

GDT - Game #42: Red Wings at Islanders (7:00)
DET (26-14-1) have an opportunity to win consecutive road contests, for the first time in forever, tonight at the NYI (14-19-6). All of the numbers suggest the Wings should prevail against the L’Eastern Conference cellar dwellers. The Islanders cannot score, 2.26 G/G (28), cannot keep the puck out of their own net, 3.15 GA/G (25), and are the league worst team at even strength...

Red Wings evening news: halfway down, awards talk, a Sharp update and smart quips from Friedman
The Detroit Red Wings flew to Long Island on Monday afternoon to wrap up their (technically speaking) four-game road trip against the Islanders, who, via the Windsor Star’s Bob Duff and Newsday’s Arthur Staple, will probably start Kevin Poulin, not Evgeni Nabokov, against Detroit on Tuesday. Tomorrow’s game marks the Wings’ 42nd, and as DetroitRedWings.com’s Bill Roose...
