Injury report:PHX-   Boyd Gordon (undisclosed, probable), Lauri Korpikoski (undisclosed, questionable)NSH-   None
Game thoughts:With their backs against the wall and without Alex Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn, the Predators bounced back with a crucial 2-0 win in Game 3 to get back in the series.  But that was just one game.  A loss tonight would halt any momentum they were able to gain two nights ago.  The Coyotes know they can be better and saw the Predators capitalize on two mistakes.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Coyotes approach this game from an X’s and O’s standpoint.  Do they try to take more chances offensively, or do they sit back and try to clog up the Predators’ chances and take advantage of the few opportunities they do get?  This game has overtime written all over it.  One or two goals may be enough to win this game.  I like the Predators, no matter what they do with the lineup.Prediction: Predators 2, Coyotes 1 (2OT)

Todd Cordell: Ilya Kovalchuk comes up huge, Devils take a 2-1 series lead over the Flyers

Ilya Kovalchuk returned to the New Jersey Devils lineup last night, and he did so in style as he picked up three points in the Devils 4-3 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Here are some notes on the game. - Before I get into notes on players and the game itself, I should point out that last night's Devils win clinched another home game, meaning they will have another...

Leaders lift Devils in Game 3 over Flyers

As the saying goes, it's playing for the name on the front of the jersey, not the one on the back, that's most crucial for success in the NHL playoffs. But in the case of the New Jersey Devils, it seems the additional letter on the front -- the "C" or "A" stitched into the upper left corner, just above the heart -- means a little something extra, too...

Game 2: Devils Don't Quit - Series Tied 1-1

"Tonight I'm planking but on Thursday it's all about Tebowing!!"   You couldn’t escape the fact that Ilya Kovalchuk wasn’t in the lineup last night, mainly because Pierre Maguire and Kenny Albert weren’t going to let us forget. Guess what, it didn’t matter. The Devils worked hard all night and found a way to get the job done. They kept their frustration...

Blues can't catch Kings, fall behind 3-0

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Drew Doughty had a goal and two assists, Jonathan Quick made 18 saves and the Los Angeles Kings moved to the brink of an unlikely second-round sweep with a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 on Thursday night. Richards, Doughty highlight Kings' leadership

With a three games to none series lead over the St. Louis Blues in their second round series, the Los Angeles Kings are now 7-1 in the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. By virtue of their responses and cutthroat instinct that were on display in a 4-2 win Thursday night at Staples Center, their confidence and command of the play against some of the NHL's elite is reminiscent of some...

Flyers Have Their Backs Against the Wall After OT Loss

It was to be their final line change of the game. With Erik Gustaffson and Brayden Schenn caught, Ilya Kovalchuk launched a nifty long pass down the ice and found Alexei Ponikarovsky streaking toward the net 1-on-1 against Andreas Lilja. He took one shot that Bryzgalov stopped, but the puck bounced back to him and he slid it into the net for an overtime winner. Just like that the...

Devils won't be a pushover to Flyers in Round 2

After Philadelphia rolled over Pittsburgh in the opening round of the playoffs, there was a perception that the Flyers would be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. Getting by New Jersey in the second round seemingly was a given after the No. 6 seed Devils needed seven games - and two overtimes in the last contest - to knock off Florida. Well, it's time to revise that...

Devils' OT victory gives them 2-1 series lead

NEWARK, N.J. - The Devils' Alexei Ponikarovsky went to the net when a couple of Flyers decided to go to the bench. His instinctive move paid off. The Devils took advantage of...

The inevitable, ‘Goalies have gotten too big!’ column

In an era where, if we believe what we read, NHL teams now find it at least unpalatable, if not irrational, to draft any goalie under 6 feet tall, the Globe and Mail’s Roy MacGregor offers the once-every-playoff-run column about the concept that goalies have gotten “too big” (although MacGregor at least acknowledges that shot-blocking and defensively-oriented playing systems...
