Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that John Tortorella says the reason for the taxi squad which consists of Cam Talbot, Dylan McIlrath, Tim Erixon, Casey Wellman, Kris Newbury and J.T. Miller is "To have players ready to play in case we run into injuries."...let's hope hope we're not seeing any of these guys in a Rangers jersey this Spring because it likely means a key injury for the Blueshirts. Great experience for the kids though.Gross also adds that Chris Kreider joked about enjoying his virtual anonymity in New York City....that's one benefit to playing in such a big city where hockey is the fourth sport, you can walk around unnoticed and enjoy your personal life. Unlike if you're playing for a Canandian team where you'd be noticed even if you're wearing a full Batman costume.Kreider also discussed difference between one-and-done College playoffs vs. NHL seven game series..."You get to know a team a little bit better. It's funny...

Rangers coach curt in brief press conference

New York Rangers head coach John Tortorella has become known for his post-game press conferences. He often says far more than he should and is the definition of outspoken. Honestly, the guy is gold with a microphone in his face. But after his team’s 3-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Tortorella was not feeling particularly talkative...
RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT

Rangers coach irritated by ringing cell phone

Following The New York Rangers 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils John Tortorella was giving a presser and a phone went off, which didn’t make J.T. too pleased. Jay Greenberg of The New York Post was the unlucky lad who had forgotten to put his phone on silent, and when it interrupted Torts, the gloves came off. Torts responded in typical and glorious fashion with profanity...

Girardi & McDonagh Jelling On & Off the Ice

It's no secret that Dan Girardi & Ryan McDonagh are jelling on the ice, but Scott Burnside at ESPN.com takes a look at their relationship off it.Girardi explains it here..."Especially this year, he's (McDonagh) coming over to my house a little bit more, playing with my son and stuff like that. And I think that's kind of part of why we're doing well. We'...

An E-mail Interview with New York Rangers’ Radio Voice Kenny Albert

For someone that listened to New York Rangers’ game on the radio from the 1992-93 (I was 9 years old) season even up until now, the e-mail interview I conducted below was an absolute honor and pleasure for me to do. I was lucky enough to conduct this particular e-mail interview with the voice of the Blueshirts on the radio, Kenny Albert. Kenny was kind enough to take time out...

Rangers Try to Make Stand on Home Ice

In the previous two playoff series this year, the Rangers have taken the opening game at Madison Square Garden, only to lose Game 2 and shift home ice to their opponent. They will be looking to avoid making it three straight when they take on the Devils in Game 2 tonight at the World's Most Famous Arena (via ESPN NY)...Ryan McDonagh..."It's a huge opportunity. We haven...

It’s a powerplay goal? Yup, it is

Ever since Jaromir Jagr departed the Rangers for greener pastures, the Rangers powerplay has struggled. The complaints were always the same, no matter the personnel. There weren’t enough shots, they were trying to be too fancy, and they weren’t moving their feet. A static powerplay is easy to defend. However, the story appears to be a bit different in the playoffs this season...

Rangers' Game 2 home loss trend continues

The New York Rangers' 1-1 knot through two games for the third consecutive playoff series can be viewed in one of two ways. Either the Blueshirts can be confident that they went on to win each of the first two rounds in seven games, or they can be discouraged by the notion that they simply are not learning from past mistakes. Rangers coach John Tortorella responded with a...

Postgame: Devils Outwork Rangers to Tie Series at Two

It's just never easy.  For the third consecutive playoff round, the New York Rangers failed to win tonight's second game after winning Game 1, 3-0, over the Devils at Madison Square Garden on Monday night. Their lacking work ethic and inability to convert on scoring chances wiped away any momentum they may have earned in that series opening win, and now they will head...

John Tortorella didn’t say a thing in his game 2 press conference except that he’ll ‘keep it in the room’

Well, that isn’t exactly the full truth. He did say “no” a handful of times during his press conference after the Rangers 3-2 loss to the Devils. He also gave a couple contrite answers. And once he decided that he was done answering questions, he leaves the room. Seems like walking out of press conferences is becoming the thing to do during this season’s post season. No...

Game 1: Rangers Shutout Devils

Well that didn’t go exactly as we had hoped. I wasn’t 100% confident that we could go in there and win Game 1 but I did think that we would have generated a little more offense than we did. We knew the Rangers do a great job at blocking shots but even though we knew it, it’s still so frustrating to see. I’m not going to take anything away from Lundqvist, he is a good goalie...
