MONDAY’S RESULT

NEW JERSEY 4, NEW YORK 1; series tied 2-2
New Jersey captain Zach Parise scored on the power play and into an empty net and added an assist to lead the Devils to a 4-1 win over the Rangers. Devils goaltenderMartin Brodeur made 28 saves and added his fourth assist of these playoffs, breaking the old record of three in a single post season.

A countdown of the night’s best moments, from Martin Brodeur’s nifty puck handling ability to some bad blood settling into the series and the game winning goal.

BETTER WITH AGE
Martin Brodeur turned 40 on May 6th, since then he has held opponents to less than three goals in six straight games. The last time he had a streak like that in the post season was in 2000.

OFFENSE FROM THE DEFENSE
Devils defenseman Bryce Salvador scored a goal and added an assist. He has ten points in 16 playoff games after having just nine points in 82 games during the regular season.  Salvador had a total of four points in 50 career playoff games prior to 2012.

TWICE AS NICE
Devils forward Travis Zajac scored his sixth goal in 16 post season games and it turned out to be the game winner. Zajac had scored only three goals in 28 playoff games coming into this post season.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Rangers lost their seventh straight game in these playoffs when they had a chance to take a two game lead in a series.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Tempers flared in the third period and Rangers head coach John Tortorella and Devils head coach Pete DeBoer had a heated exchange. . .Martin Brodeur’s best save of the game came off Rangers rookie Chris Kreider. . .
