All of a sudden that 6-0 opening season loss to the Blues seems like a long time ago.
Thursday night the Wings defeated St. Louis 5-1 behind an impressive performance by rookie goaltender Petr Mrazek and the third and fourth lines.
Mrazak who made his first career NHL start for a resting Jimmy Howard turned away 26 shots in the win while looking extremely confident between the pipes. He also got plenty of help offensively as the Wings’ production up front finally woke up after two straight lackluster games.
Dan Clearly got things going for Detroit just about midway through the first. Shortly there after Jakub Kindle got his goal of the season to put the Wings up 2-0.
Coming out of the first intermission St. Louis increased the pressure in the Red Wings zone.
