John Giannone, consummate professional. With time winding down in the second period of Thursday’s New York Rangers-New York Islanders game, Rangers defenseman Marc Staal attempted to clear the puck out of his own end, but his wayward shot ended up going right between the team’s benches and into the waiting nose of MSG reporter John Giannone. Despite the steady gush of blood streaming down from the bridge of his damaged nose, Giannone’s suit remained unblemished, and the intrepid reporter didn’t miss a beat, soldiering on from ice level while getting attention from medical staff. Giannone even got a much deserved apology from Staal. While I’m sure the fans in attendance expected to see some blood, I doubt very highly that they figured it would be from a nattily attired rinkside reporter.
