Shane Doan appears set to cash in on a mega deal from a mystery team in the Eastern Conference. While we do not know which team submitted an offer to the soon-to-be former Phoenix Coyotes right winger, it is reportedly worth $30 million over the next four years. That would be pretty big money for a player who will turn 36-years-old during the first month of the upcoming NHL season. Still, Doan continues to put up consistently solid numbers, even after 16 seasons in the NHL, with all of them coming as a member of the Coyotes. And while Doan has maintained his stance that he would love to stay in Phoenix if ownership issues are worked out, an offer of this amount would make it nearly impossible for the Coyotes to come even close to matching. It would also make it nearly impossible for Doan to turn down a contract offer of this magnitude. While his numbers did drop off a bit last season, Doan has scored at least 50 points in each NHL season since the start of the 1999 campaign....

Rangers make a pitch for Doan

The New York Rangers continue to make moves to fill in the second-tier holes on their roster. Shane Doan wants to stay with Coyotes, but huge offers making it tough

Shane Doan has always been more than vocal about the fact that he wants to stay put with the franchise that drafted him. Shane Doan Won’t Be an Easy Grab for the Toronto Maple Leafs

Shane Doan is a name being mentioned around the NHL quite a bit lately. Doan is a proven winner on the ice, and his hockey resume proves it. He won the Memorial Cup and Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy (MVP) with Kamloop Blazers in 1995. He netted 17 points in his rookie season in Winnipeg, but [...]

Is Shane Doan worth a multi-year deal?

While Shane Doan waits for the ownership situation in Glendale to fix itself, the rest of the NHL waits for him to make his decision. It’s quite fascinating how one player can keep the entire trade market at a stand-still, but that’s the kind of player Shane Doan is. He’s a leader, a great locker room guy, and he happens to be pretty good at this hockey thing too. He’s a...

NHL Free Agency: Where Will Shane Doan Go?

Captain Coyote Shane Doan could be on the move this offseason. By Rhys Richards (@RREsq) This free agency season in the NHL is most notable for its lack of big name signings. While the forward and defensive classes were thin going into July 1, the biggest names have taken their time signing contracts. The Zach Parise and Ryan Suter saga lasted almost four days as the NHL, its teams...

NHL Free Agency Rumors: Nash to Holdout; Doan Likes Sharks & Weber Deadline Extended

Aaron Portzline at the Columbus Dispatch wonders if a training camp holdout would be an option for Rick Nash if he's not traded this offseason....that would be an absolutely nightmare scenario for Columbus and their GM Howson. They'd lose what little leverage they might actually still have and the Rangers would probably be able to get Nash for some 1994 memorabilia. In other...

Red Wings morning news: on the waiting game, prospect camp and the Wild’s Ilitch?

You and I already know that the Red Wings are playing the free agency waiting game as the marketplace has slowed to a crawl, and just as importantly, the Wings’ management has chosen to wait for free agents’ asking prices to drop and/or teams’ asking prices for defensemen to slide back down from the stratosphere before adding a defenseman and possibly a goal-scoring forward...
