Not only has Rick Nash failed to produce goals in his first playoff run with the Rangers, his scoring chances seem to be decreasing significantly according to Adam Gretz at CBS Sports who gives this chart as proof...
Here was Nash after last night's 2-1 overtime loss in which he produced just two shots on goal (via Newsday)...
"I had some chances to make something happen,'' Nash said, "but it's not going in right now. I've just got to work out of this slump. They're closing the space; we've got to figure out how to get a better forecheck. We've played them five times now, we know what's going on, I don't know if it's frustration, but it's not a good thing when you can't help your team win.''
...obviously Nash isn't the only reason the Rangers aren't scoring. He's not the guy losing faceoffs or failing to get his shot through from the point, but he is the guy who the Rangers gave up great depth for in order to ensure last season's offensive futility in the playoffs never happens again. So any criticism lobbed his way is more than warranted.
...i've seen some Nash apologists mention a possible injury, but guess what, if he's healthy enough to be on the ice then he's healthy enough to score.
...i would never question his effort, but if he doesn't find the back of the net soon he's going to have a long offseason full of questions about what went wrong.
