With the regular season winding down and Nashville visiting Colorado for game 82, most were unsure what to expect with the line-up changes being handed down after the Predators secured the 4th seed in the Western Conference when Detroit lost in a shootout to Chicago.

However, with Nashville’s top line taking a rest for the night, it wouldn’t matter what the lineup was as the Predators owned the night and took Colorado to the woodshed with a 6-1 beating.

Starting a staggering lineup of Legwand, Bourque, and Radulov, it wouldn’t take but a little over 3 minutes for Nashville to initially get on the board. Spinning around and sniping his shot past Giguere, Legwand made it 1-0 Nashville at 3:39 of the first.

Matt Duchene would even the score at 1 at 8:09, however the Predators doubled up over the remaining 12 minutes getting goals from Craig Smith at 12:10 and Patric Hornqvist at 19:59.

Roman Josi would have a nearly open net at the 16:09 mark of the second, taking a pass from Craig Smith and stretching the lead to 4-1.

The Predators weren’t finished yet, Brandon Yip would score his first goal against his former team only 1:57 into the third period on a beautiful wraparound after a pass from Nick Spaling, making it 5-1 Nashville. Matt Halischuk gave Craig Smith his 3rd point of the night (and 2nd assist) when he joined in the goal scoring at 6:20 of the third to make the lead 6-1

Nashville will now await the arrival of the Detroit Red Wings for the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Most likely starting on Wednesday night, Nashville will host the first two games of round 1 before heading back to Detroit for games 3 and 4.

Preds' home ice could be a big key vs. Red Wings

The Predators finished off their slate of games in the 2011-12 regular season with a strong offensive victory, 6-1 over the Colorado Avalanche. But it was tough to gauge the Predators following the win. They won by a lot, but they were without their usual first line of Martin Erat, Sergei Kostitsyn and Mike Fisher -- who were given the night off. They didn't have Hal Gill or...
