The Predators claimed Zach Boychuck off waivers only a day after picking up Butler. This of course means that every other team passed on the chance to pick up the 23 year old who was being sent down by Pittsburgh. But Boychuk does have potential and the ability to be a contributor if put in the right position. Boychuk was put on waivers by Carolina earlier this season and claimed by the Penguins.  Zach Boychuck is a Canadian centerman who won gold twice at the World Juniors. He was drafted fourteenth overall in the 2008 entry draft and split his time between the Hurricanes and their AHL affiliate. Boychuk played 7 games with the Penguins this season, but was unable to contribute a point to the teams efforts. During the lockout he had 16 goals and 16 assists with the Charlotte Checkers.  Despite having no points, Boychuk averaged 11:37 of ice time with Pittsburgh and had a -2 during that time. In his career, he has 7 goals and 11 assists, all with the Hurricanes, almost all of which came in the 09-10, and 10-11 seasons.  Boychuk is a good pick up for the Predators. He can play games without hurting the team and is a good defensive player. His biggest asset may be sparking some fear into the regular Predators players. Nashville could be a very good environment for Boychuk. The lack of superstars could allow the young player a lot of time to develop.  Boychuk only has one year left on his contract.  Boychuk's addition oppens up the possibility of a claimed waiver line. Butler, Boychuk, Clune.  Or going back to last year, Yip, Boychuk, Clune.
