Rarely do the Predators allow the first goal and come away with a win, but Nashville defied the numbers against Dallas on Monday night. The Predators defeated the Stars 4-1 at Bridgestone Arena to pick up two much-needed points and move ahead of Dallas in the Central Division. The Predators entered the game with the worst record in the league when trailing first, winning just 14.8 percent of the time. So when Cody Eakin put a power-play goal past Predators goalie Carter Hutton less than five minutes into the first period, the outlook seemed bleak. But the Predators bucked the trend by responding with four unanswered goals, and Hutton turned away 35 of 36 shots to earn his third consecutive victory. “Carter made some big saves,” Predators coach Barry Trotz said. “That’s what goaltending does, it creates momentum. … We felt pretty comfortable on the bench. You’re going, ‘It doesn’t matter that they are throwing everything at him.’ ” It was only the fifth time the Predators have come back from an early deficit this season, but it was the second time they did so against the Stars. Nick Spaling put the Predators on the board with a rebound goal with 8:25 remaining in the opening period. Captain Shea Weber followed less than six minutes later with a goal off a feed from Eric Nystrom. Roman Josi and Mike Fisher also scored for the Predators.
