Found January 18, 2013 on Holdout Sports:
An NBC commercial promoting the NHL season opener between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers got its facts mixed up by claiming that the Penguins defeated the Flyers in last year's playoffs. The ad sells the game with this: Sid "The Kid" (Crosby) and the Penguins face off with rival Philly...and Claude Giroux and the Flyers have their sights set on revenge from last season's playoff loss to Pitt. The Flyers probably aren't thinking about revenge, given the fact that they eliminated the Penguins 4-2 in the first round of the 2012 NHL playoffs. Looks like NBC needs to step up their game. H/T Puck Daddy. Visit us at holdoutsports.com and follow us on Twitter @HoldoutSports.

The Evolution of Sidney Crosby

"You realize over that period of time that you just want to compete and be with your team and go through all the normal things that an NHL season brings. I'm just excited for that," Crosby said. "I always thought I appreciated the game; I'd be the first one to say that I don't think I took it for granted. I've always worked hard and realized...

Pronger Speaks About Giroux; Flyers Put Veterans On Waivers

As we all know, yesterday the Philadelphia Flyers have named Claude Giroux the organization's 19th Captain. The team's previous Captain, Chris Pronger is still suffering from severe post concussion syndrome. Unfortunately it looks like Pronger's NHL career may be coming to an end.  Wishing Chris the best of luck with his health, where there is an end, there is a beginning...

Almosts and miscues spoil new captain Giroux’s stellar effort

Photo by Len Redkoles/NHLI via Getty Images By Charlie O’Connor (@THG_Charlie) Down 2-1 in the third period of the season opener against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins, new Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux skated in on Marc-Andre Fleury all alone, courtesy of a rinkwide saucer pass from linemate Scott Hartnell. Instead, a barely-audible whistle blew, signifying the only...

According to new NBC commercial, Penguins eliminated Flyers last postseason

How does stuff like this happen?  How does no one in the production group check to make sure that the script they give the voice-over person is correct?  How do they not check to make sure they know what happened in the last playoff series between these two teams?  How can Claude Giroux be looking for revenge when the Flyers beat the Penguins last year?  In case you were wondering...

NBC gets Stanley Cup Playoffs results wrong during promo

The NHL is back, and NBC is putting the full court press with advertisements for this weekend's slate of games on NBC and NBC Sports Network, including the above promo for the Penguins-Flyers game that will air regionally on NBC. In the voiceover, there is a mention made of Claude Giroux and the Flyers having their sights set on revenge for last season's playoff loss...

NBC: The Pens Eliminated the Flyers Last Season

NBC is off to an awesome start with their hockey coverage this year. Via Puck Daddy: "Claude Giroux and the Flyers have their sights set on revenge for last season’s playoff loss to Pitt." Ten bucks says NBC got their results from the script Bettman wrote for last season and not from what actually happened.

Daily Buzz: Chip Introduced; Flyers Give Giroux His Moment

Image courtesy of the Associated Press Although Thursday wasn't nearly as exciting as Wednesday was, there is always something to talk about when it comes to Philly sports. As we all know, the Eagles introduced Chip Kelly as their new head coach.  If you missed the press conference, here is the complete transcript. (Philadelphia Eagles) In the baseball world, Phillies shortstop...

Tim Panaccio: Disappointed in Pronger

Very disappointed that Chris Pronger snubbed the media today when we all wanted to talk to him about Claude Giroux. We agreed in advance not to discuss Chris's LTIR status or his post-concussion syndrome. This was about Giroux. None of us are certain why Pronger, who asked for 24 hrs to consider giving us an interview chose to diss the media. He only talked to the Flyers...

Penguins hoping a little defense goes a long way

There are few teams in hockey as loaded offensively as the Pittsburgh Penguins. The trouble for the Penguins is, there are plenty of teams better at the other end of the ice. Following two first-round playoff exits, including a six-game loss to Philadelphia last spring, Pittsburgh is hoping a renewed focus on defense will lead to the franchise's fourth Stanley Cup. The Penguins...

Flyers look for long playoffs after short season

The NHL lockout only seemed to drag on such an interminable length that last season was a distant memory. The reality is, last April was only nine months ago, not so long that it's too hard to remember who won the first-round playoff series between the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins-Flyers is a rivalry so big, it's kicking off NBC's season...

NBC Is Just Making Up NHL History As They Go

The NHL needs a “previously on” recap before games, I guess.Hockey’s been gone so long, even the networks airing hockey games don’t remember what happened the last time the NHL was in season. They know the Kings won the Stanley Cup. Their logo has a basketball on it for some reason, right? They know Wayne Gretzky’s daughter has an Instagram account and a fantastic body...

RECAP: Like Riding a Bike. PENS WIN.

Before today the best 60 minutes of Paul Martin's Penguin career was his introductory press conference. Today Martin and the rest of the defense set the tone with a complete 60 minute effort. We can tell ourselves that this game will never avenge being beat in the playoffs by the Flyers, but guess what it does a little bit. Especially when you think about the fact...
